Hello Everyone,

I had a customer asked if it was possible to recieve a telephone page from their Partner ACS system to their Motorola Handheld radios. I have never seen this done in the 12 years I have worked in telecommunications but I thought I would put this out here. Is there some converter equipment that would need purchased and could this connect throught the paging port or a Bogen paging system? Or is this just not a possibility yet?

Thoughts?

Well, the page port has a 600 ohm impedance, and a contact closure which could operate a PTT, but you'd have to work with a Motorola engineer about how to interface it.

1. What kind of radios are you talking about? Commercial? FRS? GMRS?
2. Are you wanting to duplicate existing overhead pages? Or are the radios going to be a separate/the only source of paging?

Point to consider: when you start mixing telephone and radio, you get into FCC rules that may or may not apply depending on what type of radios and spectrum used. Having said that, if you have a licensed commercial system, I know of a few products that can patch any combination of telephone/radio/network/etc. together, and can be voice actuated. The Raytheon ACU 100 might fit the bill in this case, although it may cost more than it's worth to have radio paging. Zetron also makes some radio products capable of patching.

I know the radio is a motorola UHF radio. I believe all they want it for is to hear the overhead pages that oome across the paging system.

Thanks for the info.

Interfacing this to a base station should be fairly do-able. Use the Partner external paging contact closure to key the mic and then use a matching transformer to match auto to mic input of base station.
