thank you for the links. They do provide great information but what I am looking for doesn't appear to be in the links listed.
What I'm hoping to find is a step by step..i.e
cisco) address xxx.xx.xx.xxx
cisco) gateway xxx.xx.xx.xxx
and etc.
I'm not a network admin, i'm a windows admin who has been thrust in to the position. any help is appreciated.

There is no easier guide that I know of. That first link is the walk through but you have to follow it and ignore the things you don't want or your platform doesn't support. Step your way through that.
The ASA is a daunting box if you have no network experience much less no cisco experience. If this is seems over your head, I would recommend a consultant. The last thing you want is a misconfigured firewall.
If choose to tackle it yourself - more power to you. If you run into problems post specific questions and configs, the people here are pretty helpful.

The firewall comes with a wizard that can get you through the basic settings.
From command line use the setup command
This will allow you to connect via ASDM to the ASA. If you want to reset to the default config first use:
configure factory-default
