I have recently re-installed my BEFW11S4 Linksys router. I am running to machines, and the machine that is connected to the wireless card cannot go on AOL instant messenger. Something from the router is blocking it. The other machine, which is connected to the router directly, can. I tried going into the router settings and using DMZ Port Forwarding, but I didn't know what to forward or even if it was needed. I do have Zone Alarm on the machine that DOES work with AIM.

Thank you.

You don't need to use DMZ forwarding with AIM but port forwarding, port 5190 is the main port required, but a range of ports might be needed to file transfer, voice, webcam etc.

This can be a long tedious search for solutions, according to MS MSN messenger wont work without UnPNP enabled(although it won't work with it enabled sometimes), this could be a similar situation, I would suggest that you see what ports are connecting on the other system and then forward them as needed .

Problem is different installations choose random ports, so you might need to set the ports in AIM aswell as the router.

thanks alot, okay i think im going to go try to find the AIM port... i dont care about picture sharing or anything like that anyways, so i'll just look for the other one. If i find it, i'll let you know, thanks a bilion.

Enable uPnP on the router.
Enable uPnP on the clients.

Hi bcastner

I hope that works for AIM it doesn't for MSN, I have tried it on several systems.

This got me thinking and as I was trying to sort out MSN I tried this which seemed to work.

On the BEFSR41 it's in the Password page of the router.

UPnP Services: Enable Disable
