I have a T1 connection at my apartment and I am not able to configure the router. It works fine but disconnects EVERY HOUR or so... is it not possible to have a router like this with a T1 connection? I feel like I tried everything...

althought the router was built for dsl and cable . It can be used for the purposed . You might have to fill in a switch in between the T1 and the wan/internet port of the router to filter out the connection

Yes you could; however, you would likely be using switch in between the router and the modem. The WAN connection type would be a static IP Address provided to you by your ISP.

what is a "switch" can you direct me to a couple online?

I can see where kennz and shocker1 are going with their advice. I still think the best answer is: it does not support ISDN connections.

Try it. I know some have made it work exactly along the lines that kennz and shocker1 have suggested. Just mark me as sceptical that this is a reliable solution.

I am not sure what ISDN is... I have a T1 connection at school and the router is designed for cable/DSL...

I would run a test before you assume it is the Linksys. Plug a computer directly into the T1 device, get it online. Let it run an hour or two, if you still lose connectivity, contact your ISP. If it goes away, contact Linksys for support.

1. It may simply need the latest firmware applied.
2. I have seen Linksys devices crashes from specifying a computer that is unavailable or having network issues on the log files page.

We ran every test under the sun... it has the latest firmware. I even took two desktops, made one the ISP and one the client (and then it worked fine)... whenever it is plugged into the wall it sends error messages (or something like that) into the network and causes storms (???)... my ISP is the university, so they are very intolerant.... they just disconnect me...

So if the line is fine with other devices, then it is the Linksys. Call support, they will help you. My guess is they'll ask you to do a factory reset first, so I would try that now and get it out of the way. If it is under warranty, they may just replace it. It should work fine.

"I am not sure what ISDN is... I have a T1 connection at school and the router is designed for cable/DSL..."

My apologies. T1. My same viewpoint. If it is not PPoE, or Cable, your only choice is to set for a static IP on the T1 connection.

There is zero support for keeping a heartbeat on this connection under the Linksys firmware.

T1 speeds 1Mbps and uploads at speeds up to 150Kbps. The setting would be set to Static IP Address. PPPoE is normally used by DSL which requires username and password for authenthication, while Cable is just running Obtain an IP Address Automatically which uses MAC Clone for authentication.

ISDN - Integrated Services Digital Network

- This is commonly used for large or small enterprise network used for voice, video, and data over digital telephone line.

I swear this is the same problem as mine (and no, I can't just let it go): thread916-732542

ISDN (baseband transmission) is also used in the u.k. for remote or rural areas when people require more than 56k and adsl is not avaliable (let alone cable)
There is also " B-ISDN", which uses broadband transmission and is able to support transmission rates of 1.5 Mbps. B-ISDN requires fiber optic cables and is not widely available.
Basic Rate ISDN (BRI) service consists of two 64 Kbps B-channels, and one D-channel for transmitting control information. Primary ISDN service consists of 23 B-channels (in the U.S.) or 30 B-channels (in Europe).
anway hope this cleares up the ISDN buisness.
