Hi,

I'm connecting two machines to the BEFSR41(with the DEC. 2002 fw). One is running XP and the other win2000. I can ping the router (192.168.1.1) and surf the net just fine from both machines, but i can not ping the XP machine from the 2000 machine and vice versa.

They are setup for DHCP with a static address for the router. The cable is crossover type from the ADSL modem to the router, and traight through type from the router to the PCs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, ctn.
I've had the same problem, but then all I had to do is to install NetBEUI protocol on both PCs, and everything worked perfectly. Try this.

NetBEUI has nothing to do with ping. Ping uses TCP/IP.

Thank you for replying.

I'm running ZoneAlarm, but i did set it to allow ping.exe to go through from the local machines. Do i have to do something else?

I noticed that i do not have NetBEUI installed. If all else fails, i'll give it a try.

The XP firewall is not running. Mine is the Pro version, don't know if that makes any difference.

I think it's got to be Zone Alarm. Try turning off ZA completely to see if it will work. Could you have installed a firewall with your virus scanner? Many retail virus scanners come with a firewall component.

smash,

You are a genius!!! I turned of zone alarm and was able to ping the local machines.

Thank you for your help,
cuong

I don't know ZA too well, so I can't help with why it doesn't work. There should be some way to enable it, but I don't know.
