Hello Everyone,

Before I begin - I have scoured the internet for help relating to the issue I am about to explain - I have also performed several troubleshooting steps, which I will list below.

ISSUE: My startup and shutdown sounds as well as a couple of audio programs output scraching and beeping sounds when playing .mp3's. Logic, Windows Media, and WinAmp work fine. The sound issue happens from both my soundcard and onboard sound, which leads me to believe it is a MOBO or XP OS issue.

HARDWARE:

-Brand new ASUS A7V8X-X MOBO (issue started since I installed the new MOBO)
-Sounblaster Platinum Sound Card (worked perfectly fine on my other MOBO, which also had XP installed)

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:

-Updated XP OS via Windows Update.
-Updated my SoundCard Drivers.
-Updated my MOBO including BIOS and other Drivers.
-Under Control Panel I insured that my Sounds options are all using my Sounblaster Card.
-Under Sound advance properties I ensured that Digital Ouput is NOT selected.
-Swapped the speakers with headphone, which did not make a difference so I know it is not my speakers.
-I checked my Reg Keys to see if other logins have differnt values than my Admin. Everything is ok here.

I think that's about all I can remember for now. Can anyone assist with this issue?

Thanks,
M

Have you tried disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS and running the SB card only, and vice/versa? Maybe there's an un-apparent conflict between both cards?

Have you tried using a new type of software to play the sound media (that you havent used before) to rule out that also? Do the noises occur regardless of volume level? Do you hear background noise at high volume with no media being played

Have you ruled out any grounding, metal contact, etc with the new MOBO and the case, as well as any devices near the pc that may cause EMF interference (tape recorders, large TVs, etc)?

This can also sometimes be attributed to driver issues but apparently youve pursued that route already...I know in the past i've heard terrible background noises (hardware shielding faults) with cheap 8-bit soundcards and "value priced" MOBO's onboard sound -but the SB shouldnt be affected by that unless theres an interference source nearby.

Maybe there is also some sort of codec/OS issue I havent thought of...anyone? anyone?

-Tried it, it didn't help.

-Yep done it. The nosie happens at any level. There is no bg noise.

-In regards to EMF, I had the other PC at the same location and it had no problem plus other programs work fine, if there was EMF it would be happening within all programs I think!?! ;)

-In regards to Grounding & metal contact, what would I be looking for? The MOBO is setting on this copper looking things that are screwed into the mobo, I think that's about all the contact there is. Any help on this?

Are you up to date with the latest DirectX?

See if you can pickup any clues from this probably unrelated thread.

Are there any differences in sound if you run in Safe Mode?

What about if you run a Registry Cleaner type program?

-Tested this as well.

Thanks for your replies!

Have you tried the links to the Sound Blaster forum which I think was mentioned in that original thread and have a look around there?

And what about the manufacturer's support?

If your comp is an hp then that is your problem after about 1 year with the hp the mobo sound just goes bad and time for a new comp!
