Hi, I have a file server that has the Advanced File Open option installed. It's worked great for weeks, and all of a sudden, the last two full backups, I've received this error:

OFO: Volume specified is not snappable. Possible reasons: Not a fixed drive, or contains an active cache file or does not have a valid source or is write protected.

I haven't changed any hardware or software settings (other than critical Windows updates).

Any idea what this might mean? I don't think any of the listed possible reasons apply to my situation.

Thanks,
~S~

Are you using Symantec AV? This can cause the problem - you need to exclude .vsp files from the realtime scanning.

You can configure the AOFO with the Wizard on the Mediaserver. It looks, that there is to much "activity" on the disks. Change the default value from the "number of seconds during....." from 5 to 3. Note: do not use a value lower than 2, because the data's could be incostitent!

Do you use the AOFO for the whole Server? Sometimes it's better to use this Option only for the partition/folder wich has the important open files... You will have less problems and much more performance!

That ended up being the problem - After installing some hotfixes, the message changed to not being able to get enough "quiet time." Boy, do I know that feeling :)

At the moment, yes it's for the whole server. How do you specify which folders it should and shouldn't apply to?

Thanks!

Silmeron,
There is unfortunately no possibility to set specify on wich folder the AOFO should be used or not. The easiest way is to create a new job with a new selection list only for the AOFO-Backup.

Be also sure, to use the "new" VSP Driver (1.03) from Veritas. This is included in a Hotfix on BE 9.0.4454 or in the version 9.1.4691.

Is there a way to change the values in the AOFO wizard without using the wizard? BE thinks that the AOFO isn't installed when I try to run the wizard but everything has be re-installed and it seems to be working OK.
