Hi,

It's just a quick question to see if it's possible to restore individual messages from a mailbox while exchange is still 'up and running' or do the services need to be stopped?

I've read through the manuals but could not see anywhere that says for definate.

Don't want to set the restore going and it shuts down the services...

Thanks in advance

Mick.

As long as you backing up the mailboxes in the backup job you can restore individual email or mailboxes back to the orginal location or alternate mailbox. You dont have to stop any services

Thanks for the replies, one more thing do i need to do anything with the options..
No loss restore ( do not delete transaction logs )
commit after restore completes
Mount database after restore completes

these are all ticked by default, not sure whether they need to be as I'm only restoring two messages.

Mick.

That only affects Information Store restore not mailbox restores

Great, Thanks Steve, just wanted to make sure.

Restored perfect.

Thanks for your help.

I have to restore a few emails like ClowneUser. Do the users have to get out of Outlook before doing the restore or can I just restore during the day?

Thanks for help
