Let me re-phrase my answer just for mcwenterprises...
Shadow Copy Components contain the following:-
- System State
- Service State
- User Data - this includes Exchange 2003 and SQL instances.(You will only see this if Exchange and/or SQL is installed on the server) - (a bti off topic, but you won't see these selections on BE 10.0)
Now for instance if the Windows 2003 server is a Domain Controller with no Exchange or SQL on it - under Shadow Copy Components, you will see
- System State
- Service State
If you select to do an incremental backup of "files" - and you have included Shadow Copy Components during this backup - a full backup will take place on Shadow Copy Components - there is no way to change this at all.
Now that this has been explained - If this is your only domain controller on the network, should I be doing a backup of Shadow Copy Components even if I am doing Incremental backups of files?
Now for instance, you have a 2003 server, a domain controller with Exchange 2003 on it.
You have selected to do incremental backups of files, and you have selected to do all Shadow Copy Components.
The System State and Service State will backup as full backups - again there is no place where this can be changed.
The Exchange 2003 part of Shadow Copy Components will take the settings for the Exchange backup specified under Settings, Exchange in the Job Setup screen.
So if you select to do a full backup of Exchange - it will do a full backup of Exchange, irrespective of what is selected for backup type of files.
