I was advised by Veritas that I could purchase the 9.0 remote agent for a new Windows 2000 server I installed and it would work with Backup Exec 8.6 media server. I have installed the agent and it is running. The media server shows the agent is running on the server, however, my backups are showing a "Failed" status with an error message that is "unable to initialize remote agent". I have tried all suggestions from Veritas knowledge base but still get error message. The backup does appear to be working, but this error message is causing a "Failed" status.

Anyone else using this combination? If so, any ideas on how to get the remote agent to initialize with the 8.6 media server software. Any help would be appreciated.

djackson,

I’m not sure who you talked to at Veritas, but he/she was totally wrong about the 9.0 Remote Agent. It is definitely not compatible with an 8.6 media server. I would suggest, upgrading your 8.6 media server to 9.0 build 4454. Doing so will provide you with the compatibility you need between the BEengine and Remote agent.

You definately can use the v9.0 Remote Agent with the v8.6 Server.

We have an 8.6 Media server with 2 v8.6 Remote Agents and 3 v9.0 Remote Agents and all of them work perfectly.

I was also informed of this by Veritas and our Independent Third Party supplier who has licence specialists at hand.

It is totally backward compatible, but not the other way around!
