BE 8 errors

I just inherited a server with 2k server and BE 8. when I try to open the program to view and work with the backup jobs I ge t a message saying "application system not responding" I have not seen this error before, and I can not get to the program.

Is there anything else in the event viewer that could shed any light on this issue.
