Hi I'm get the following error meesage in the log file after running a full backup

The media provided to continue the backup already contains data
from one or more sets created during this operation.
The operation can not be continued

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I'm using a new backup tape and have hardware compression on, it should be able to backup with compression 200gb but has only done 187gb before getting the error. Media overwrite is also on.

I don't know why this is happening - it came up on the d: drive on the BE server as if it was starting a new backup job.

Can help would be great

As said many times in this forum...a backup must begin and end on the tape in a continuous form or you need to use more than one tape. In other words...the backup MUST finish BEFORE the end of tape is reached OR the backup must continue onto ANOTHER tape. It cannot begin on a tape, reach the end, and then continue at the beginning.

Your backup is REQUIRING a second tape.

There's 13gb left on the tape, so it should fit on the single tape - it LTO 100gb native and 200gb compressed, The end hasn't been reached ?

You didn't say how big the database is. All you said was:

"it should be able to backup with compression 200gb but has only done 187gb before getting the error"

That made it sound like you were trying to backup a 200GB database.

SO, how big is what you are trying to backup? Are you using Verify? (If so, it needs extra space for that).

It backing up a 2 X domain controllers a exchange box and a SQL databse put another remote server and yes verity is running - which is seem to be taking a lot of space.

Thanks for your help
