I am having a problem ( within the last couple of weeks ) my diffential jobs not running because Veritas is asking for overwritable media. I put a new tape in on Fridays - the full runs and then when Monday's differential starts I get " tape so and so is overwrite protected etc etc etc"- The differentials are set to append so there shouldn't be a problem with the overwrite protection? This is happening on a couple of servers ,both running 8.5 or 8.6.

If the tape was full for some reason ( bad blocks that are unable to be written to ) would I get the same error?

Is it possible that dirty tape drive could cause that error? ( Have no idea when the drive was last cleaned ).

what happens if you put an overwritable media in the slot?
have you checked the overwrite protection in the media options? i had this problem and it was first because i didnt have the alerts set to automatically overwrite without my intervention. also had the situation with a particial overwrite protection setting checked.
