Hello all, and I hope someone can shed some light on this frustrating situation.

Win 2k server, BE 8.0.

Recently my b/u jobs have been ending in a failed state with no description as to why in the log. The log has no ^^^^ entries (that normally denote the error), just simply "Failed". The backup of files is working, but the verify process is not performed. The event viewer has only a standard entry for a BU failed job (event id 45).

Here is the strange twist ~ if I delete the scheduled job from the job monitor and re-add from the job definitions tab, the backup and verify will work correctly for one night. The next day, it resumes the failed status.

I hope the above is descriptive enough....I am not a tech person by trade; merely someone in a small shop with a small amount of networking background.

Thanks for your time.

I should add, we are NOT using the exchange agent or backing up any exchange files. This is a simple two drive backup of only 5.5 gigs. Here is the log file from the most recent attempt....

Perhaps is you decided to put .tmp files in your excluded list you would not be having this issue. Hopefully you've already figured this out. :)

First step - change the job log option to report a more detailed log.

To do this:

Tools-->Options-->Job Logs tab .... change to Summary information, directories, files and file details.
(for backup exec 8.6 - not sure if its the same in 8.0)

Then run a backup & examine the log - post it here if you get a chance.

Cheers
