Have backup server and upgrade to version 12 from 11d. Version 12 can't find tape devices or disk folders. BE support been working for 3 weeks. Call back every few days ask to try something else or collect data.

I have just upgraded from 10d to 12, and have this very same problem.

Where is my device????

I found this:

You can access Removable Storage from Computer Management.

I went in there and found my device was disabled. No idea why, as it was fine yesterday and so upgrading BE must have caused this.

I am now trying to enable the device under Removable Storage, but the task is just sat in the Work Queue as 'In progress'. Server doesn't appear to be doing much at all...

We had the same problem. Make sure you have the following:
1) I had to change the SCSI ID's from 5&6 to 2&3. Make sure the carousel is the lower ID and the tape drive the higher ID.
2) Do a re-install of the software, and make sure that "Use Symantec Drivers" is selected.
3) Once done, reboot the media server. If you still don't see the tape drive, go to tools and restart the services.
4) Make sure that you have admin privledges to the B2D folders. We don't use the ADS administrator account, since that is changed regularly, and with 3 media servers, 2 Exchange servers, and 25 servers, it gets to be a pain to update all the services.. Instead, we created a new ADS specific to BUExec, and added it to the ADS Administrator group. Onc e the folders are crerated on your media server, make sure that account is included in the permissions list.

Hope this helped.

hello

i'm currently studying how to use veritas backup exec 10 with the tape drive powervault110T. now my problem is i just got in to this company just last month and ask me to learn this software and backup the some files. i have one tape that is place as scratch media. what should i suppose to do so that i can start backing files using this tape. when i create a new job the job is being successfull. but when i check my active logs there is no files and directory was read. so meaning no file was stored in the tape.

anyone can tell what to do i will highly appreciate it.

thank you newbiee123
