Hi,
I need to know how much disk space is being used on my AIX system but the output from a bdf is a bit confusing.

Can someone give me a quick explaination of each of the columns aswell as tell me how much of my total disk I am using?

Thanks!

Filesystem 1024-blocks Free %Used Iused %Iused Mounted on
/dev/hd4 131072 39540 70% 4288 7% /
/dev/hd2 3014656 669876 78% 42062 6% /usr
/dev/hd9var 458752 416072 10% 292 1% /var
/dev/hd3 294912 241648 19% 3223 5% /tmp
/dev/hd1 32768 14032 58% 4838 60% /home
/dev/lvu02 11534336 1028148 92% 7686 1% /u02
/dev/lvu01 3145728 1980252 38% 11465 2% /u01

TOTALs
1024 Blocks=18612224
Free=4389568
IUsed=73854

Fisrt column is the logical volume name
second one is the size of each of them in Kb
third is the free space available in each logical volume
fourth is the %age used
fifth is the number of inodes used
next is the %age of inode used
and then the mount point of each couple logical volume /file system

This is a df -k output. Try df -g for gigabyte output, as I think it makes more sense.

However - columns are:

Filesystem - disk/logical volume name.

The 1024 blocks - The number of 1K blocks the filesystem consists of.

Free - How many of these 1K block are free, ie not used.

%Used - the percentage of the filesystem being used.

Iuser - The number of inodes in use in the filesystem

%Iused - The percentage of available inodes in use.

Mounted on - The name of the filesystem relative to root (/)

Hope this helps.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Oops, bit late but never mind, the advice re df -g still holds if you have it available.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

It does cheers Ken!
