Hi I have a new BCM50R3 installation using the 2 analogue ports for a fax machine & a credit card swipe machine. All works OK untill the bank tries to ring the swipe machine which does not answer but the fax sends and receives OK. The swipe also sends OK. I have applied the latest upgrade changed the wiring and master LJU and exchanged the fax & swipe ports but still it does not answer when polled. The swipe machine answers a call OK when plugged into a DEL so it can't be faulty & all leads have been changed. An ordinary phone can receive calls on the line perfectly is it something to do with ringing voltage? Am starting to lose the will to live on this one, any ideas?
Thanks
John

So when someone swipes a credit card, the credit card machine can't call the remote end to verify and accept the charge? Reason I ask is you said "until the bank tries to ring the swipe machine". Not sure if you are referring to the credit card machine receiving or making a call.

In either case..

If the credit card machine is trying to call a host and is getting an error, have you tried connecting a standard plain old telephone to this port and attempt to make an outbound call? If you can make a call, is the credit card machine configured to dial an outbound access code (like a 9)??

If the credit card machine is required to answer a call from a host, is there a dedicated number for this machine? If so, what happens if you dial this number from a regular phone? Do you hear what sounds like a modem answering? If no, connect a plain old telephone to the port and try the call again. If the phone doesn't ring then you will need to add the line to ring that analog extension. If it does ring and the credit card machine doesn't pick up the call, then it sounds like a difference in ringing equivalency between the devices. Most non-North American countries have special localization features for ringing cadence, voltage, etc...

Let us know what you find out..

I know this is the usuall remark
Patch it up first.

There has been some issues reguarding analoge and BRI calls to these ports.
some BT cordless 6xxx range dont work on the extn analogue ports

Try an external ATA .
This was the workaround for the cordless phone issue above

Also try changing the clock source if BRI to secondary.
this fixed the faxing issue on some system

Thankyou for all your help. The swipe machine make an outgoing call to verify a customers card at the time of each transaction then overnight the card is called by the bank via a DDI and that days transactions uploaded. An ordinary telephone works OK & the fax is working through a seperate DDI. I have tried an ATA but the same problem which is that the machine does not answer an incoming call. Is there any way of changing the ringing cadence on the BCM50 as I think that is the problem.

NO
Just make sure the telephone socket you are connected to is a MASTER socket( has the capacitor to make the bell cct ring)..UK
If you are using a Ptch frame make sure the Tailed Adapter is a PABX MASTER not Secondary whic is what you use for the Nortel telephones ..UK

Thanks Snowman50 I have used a Primary socket and changed it as well as bringing the equipment to the port of the BCM50. The POT rings OK and the fax rings & auto answers OK but for some reason the swipe machine does not but does answer when plugged into a DEL.

Try changing the answer timer from 7 to 3 under capabilites-ATA-answer timer..also set device to "telephone" instead of modem..

Another thought try wiring up 1 master socket to another in series to see if it boost the ring cadence.

-----{ } ----{ }-----swipe card machine

socket 1 socket 2
