Ok, just picked up this BCM50 really cheap and wanted to get into it via web browser. I plugged it into my small office router and ran **STARTUP through a 7316 set. Reset it in PBX form and went into IP config and turned on DHCP and reset. Got the new IP from the router and punched it in my browser and got the login prompt. Of course I have no idea what the old UN/PW is on this system and I was told not to do a level 2 reset because my digital sets won't work anymore without the activation. This system is nothing more than something to get me more familiar with the BCM systems. All my other experience is with the MICS/CICS. Should I contact Nortel? Do I have other reset options? What do y'all think? Thanks in advance...

Your BCM 50 is listed as a Version 1 system and it has the following features.

Associated System Id : NNTMHD007IUI
Current Version Number : 1.0
Current Configured Feature(s):
Int Analog Sets : 4 units
Int Analog Trunk : 4 units
Exp Port : 2 units
Int Digital Sets : 12 units

I can't get the keycodes, but know someone who might be able to get them for you?.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

So you mean I can't enter the keycodes I saved from before I did the system reset?

Yes, you can. You should be able to do that.
The Sequence number is 1.
Use the drop down menus to change those four features (Int Analog Sets etc) to the values mentioned above.

Then enter the entitlement code as one 24-digit number - without spaces - in the box below (labelled "Keycode", I think) and click the button so save. It should accept it.

Ok I tried everything you put and it still won't accept it. Any more suggestions?

Ok, open notepad and paste this text in.
Code:
SystemId: 0016CA3F0D04
Sequence: 1
KeyType: 2
# Exp Port
118 2
# Int Digital Sets
117 12
# Int Analog Sets
116 4
# Int Analog Trunk
115 4
KeyCode:
123456789012345678901234
Then change the last line to the 24-digit number you got when you logged in at the telset.
Then save the file as 0016CA3F0D04_01.lic
Then try uploading this file to the BCM50 using the Element Manager.
Then let us know whether this works.

Ok Frideo, it says "the new licence data has applied", Just check it and it works! Thanks a lot!

Ok so now I have the BCM set up through my small business network. Its pulling DHCP from my router. My PC IP is 192.168.1.100 obviously the first address in the range. The BCM50 is 192.168.1.102. No issues connecting to BCM with the EM through the network. I plugged an I2004 phone into the next port for a test. I thought maybe it would connect to the switch but not have any features since I don't have any IP set codes in the BCM yet. My question is when if I buy a couple of IP keycodes just to mess around with, once I enter them and restart the BCM will the I2004 set automatically detect the BCM in the network and connect to it?

No!. You will need to enter in the BCM IP address into the I2004 phone and also key in the password when you connect.

You might want to see if you can download the task based guides from the Nortel site. They are very good!.

Ok I think I at least have a connection to the server, now it says.... "Server: No Ports Left". I'm assuming now once the IP set codes are entered I will go through with the full install?

Server: No Ports Left" means that the phone has successfully contacted the PBX but that there are not enough licences available.

Yes, when you get the licence and apply it, the phone should be able to register.
Depending on what way you've the settings for this in the EM, the phone may ask for a registration password or for what DN you want to give the phone, or both.

I suggest you give the BCM50 a static IP address, because if it changes later, the phones won't find it automatically.

Ok got that part Frideo. Next noob question. Can I connect my I2004 phone to the BCM through the WAN. In other words, I am hosting my BCM on my network with DMZ forwarded to 192.168.1.102 which is the address to the BCM50. Can I take the IP phone to another location and plug it into a connection on their network and manually enter the IP address to my network and expect the phone to see the BCM?

I have no problem connecting IP sets to BCM via WAN with private network . BCM / IP sets would not work with DMZ nor NAT as I had tried . For remote users with internet, softphone connected to BCM via VPN is working fine without any problem.

So when you say connecting the IP sets with a private network are you talking about a VPN?

Ok So I have the keycodes installed for 2 IP clients on the BCM. The phone is saying "registration is disabled". I look all around in the Element Manager and can't find any setting for it. Do I need another code of some sort to allow IP phones to work? All I have right now is the 12 digital ports, 4 analog, 4 trunk, 2 EXP port. GAHH!!!! Help!

Thanks a lot firebird, just installed it and will go over it tonight! Should help with all my noob questions.
