Hello Everyone,

I am trying to upgrade a BCM50 system from 1.0 to 3.0 starting from zero, that is, after factory defaulting it.

I had to FD it because at the beginning it was previously upgraded from 1.0 to 2.0 and then from 2.0 to 3.0, and that last one came up with issues (the upper LED was red and the lower LED was green-blinking and also the callpilot didn't come up).

The problem that i'm having at this moment is that patch file that i downloaded from the Nortel site for the 1.0 to 3.0 upgrade says that is invalid.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

R u trying to load it while it's still at R1? U need to up grade it to 3.0 then load the R3 factory image patch.

Well, basically what i'm trying to do is upgrade it from 1.0 to 3.0 and when I try to do the second step of the upgrade, which is in CD # 1, it says is invalid.

check that you have the upgrade keycode rel1 to rel3.
Do the first stage pre upgrade step.(5 mins)cd1
Apply the keycode second step."check the keycode is applied".
Do the second stage upgrade next.( 40 mins) cd1
Do the third stage upgrade next (30 mins) cd 2.
Do the forth stage upgrade next (30mins) cd 3

Then do the Image file so if you do a L2 reset it will stay at rel3.(download from nortel site)

I'm stuck in the second step. After I apply the keycode, I go to run the second step of the upgrade and it says that is invalid. :S

are your CDs rel 1 to rel3
or are they rel 2 to rel3
your key code needs to match the correct upgrade,

Ok. Sorry for the delay in my response...

The CDs that i'm using at this moment are the 1 to 3 upgrade.

Remember, that equipment was first conceived as a rel 1, then it was upgraded to 2 (like 18 to 20 months ago) and then upgraded to rel 3. Now, after being factory defaulted, it has gone back to rel 1 and the second step of the upgrade says that is invalid after loading the keycode file.

Please let me know.

Thats why i am asking does the keycode match the upgrade.
what is the key code you are given for the upgrade.

something like
# Upgrade
299 212 for rel 2 to rel3

# Upgrade
299 210 for rel1 to rel2

Hmmm... I see what you mean... What I do have is this:
# Upgrade
299 212 for rel 2 to rel 3

Is there any other workaround that I can perform just to complete that part?

Thanks again

Reuse the R1-R2 upgrade kit u had when u upgraded it to R2. Hopefully u saved the R1-R2 upgrade keycode. once it's back to R2 use your R2-R3 upgrade kit and keycode.

:)

I spoke to someone from Nortel and that person just told me the same thing you guys are just telling me. The problem was that there were no license files available from the R2. The good news is that I emailed Nortel (ask@nortel.com) asking for a license file prior to the last upgrade and they emailed me back with files, one prior to the upgrade and the other after the upgrade.

I believe this would end this issue. After I do this I'll let you guys know.

Cheers!!

Ok guys. The upgrade has completed but i'm still having the same problems that I had before... The BCM 50 goes to r3 but the callpilot and other services are not coming up and the cpu is at 100%. It also takes about 30 to reboot. Any ideas??

Is it connected to the LAN if so unplug it from the LAN and reboot it and see if it boots up normally(+- 10 minutes).
I saw an occurence where connected to the LAN(mostly MAC pc's)the bcm would not boot and fail with the top led RED and the bottom one flashing GREEN.(no conflicting IP adress,it just doesnt like something on the network.after succesful boot you plug it back and good to go until the next reboot..!)
Did you patch it after the upgrade,if not do it to the latest and post the results.
