First off, hello! and secondly, thank you to everyone that can help me with the issue.

I have had a BCM50 installed in our new office and I am trying to access it remotely over the internet using Business Element Manager. The installer told me it was as simple as forwarding ports and it shouldn't give me any issues however that is not the case.

I have yet been able to access the system although, it is connected correctly (to our cisco 871W router) and the ports are forwarded correctly on the router.

When I try to validate the device, it comes back as successful but identifies it as Unknown and when trying to connect to it, it gives me Detector 'BCMDetector' cannot determine the device type for xx.xx.xx.xx. (IP has been removed)

I have looked through the documentation provided however I have not been able to find any information for this problem. And having contacted the installer of the unit has not given me any answers as he has not responded to me as of yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pat

If the system is a BCM50e, make sure the port forwarding is to the address of the BCM not the router. Can you connect locally to the address that you're forwarding to? Also make sure those ports are allowed through the firewall if it's on.

The documentation that I have does not indicate if it's BCM50e or not. It simply says BCM50. The ports are forwarded to the internal IP which is used to access the system when physically at the office.

I had the cisco router point a list of ports to the internal BCM50 system IP. Ex. port 5989 -> 192.168.12.50

Also make sure those ports are allowed through the firewall if it's on.

If I understand you correctly, do you mean that there is a firewall built into the BCM50 system? And if so, the ports need to be opened on that as well?

Thanks,

Pat

The BCM50 does not have a firewall.
Its your own firewall on your router he is referring to

Have the Cisco guy make sure those ports are allowed through that router. If they're blocked there, port forwarding won't take place as the packets will get discarded at the front door.
