BCM50 - Reconfigure URGENT PLS HELP! 1

Hi

New to this so forgive any errors in posting!

My business has purchased a second hand BCM50, to upgrade from our old Nortel 0x32.

I'm having a few problems.

Is there a way of restoring the system and all it's programming, to defaults, without - loosing all the keycodes that are installed?
I bought a DSM32 to add to the system, and was told i would not need any key codes to make this work, however some extensions says Keycode Required.
there are a number of Voip lines that were configured on the system, how do I remove these lines?
Please, if you can help, please come back to me as soon as possible.

Do a backup of the lic file that way you can restore it back to the bcm once you perform a reset. You definitely need a keycode for a exp module so your dsm 32 will work too. Fyi everything on the main cabinet require s a keycode digital stations, trunks, etc.

One big problem with buying used BCMs is the software release. You didn't say in your posting what your release is but if you have to buy keycodes, you will have to make sure it's at release 6 first because Avaya doesn't sell licenses for anything else........except for upgrades. You might find a stocking supplier somewhere who still has some paper codes laying around that will probably still work.

As for defaulting it, why don't you just delete everything you don't need, or tell us what problems you're having. There are lots of people on here who can help.
 
ok. There is a stack of Ip phones listed on the system, can someone explain how I use ip phones with this, do i need to remove whats on there and add new ones? or if i connect will the system auto find them?

let me start with this;

there is a number of voip and direct lines on the system already. All I need at the moment is 2 normal pstn lines. we will be adding voip lines later this month.the prob is that i cannot find the "normal" lines, as there are so many on their already.

there is also a huge number of IP extensions, we need to add our own digital and Ip extensions, but I dont know how with all these other extensions there.

If i can delete the extns and lines, i can start to rebuild. if someone can advise, I can get started. the main prob is that i need all of this sorted by Tuesday when we reopen after Easter.
 
Are you a Nortel technician/telephone technician or basically just a person trying to wing this install. I'm asking cause if you have no idea what your doing you may want to bring in a tech to help you.

on the system is:

VM Seat x 30
LAN CTE Seat x 1
IP Client Seat x 30
Int Digital Sets x 4
EXP Port x 1
BT Race x 1

what we want is 2 normal analogue lines, we want to add 6 voip lines, have 20-ish digital extns, and 20 ip phones.
Can you advise what we need to do to get this further?

this is the 3rd BCM ive installed, the difference being the others were brand new and easier to install.
 
First off, you don't have licenses for analog lines on the main unit. If you want to use them you will have to acquire them. You have 30 IP clients so you can add 30 IP phones (pretty nice). You also have 1 expansion license so you can add an expansion cabinet and stick whatever module you want in it. Since you need 20 digital phones, put in a 4X16 to give you 4 analog trunk lines and 16 digital stations plus, the 4 digital staions on the main unit gives you your 20. Anything above that, just use IP sets (you have 30 licenses for them).

When the IP phones come online and ask for a DN, just key in whatever extension number you want (as long as it's programmed in the system) and the set will register itself and stay that way until you deregister it. Doing extension number changes is simple.
 
ok, I thought i could just add the 2 lines, as the BCM50, has ports for wiring 4 lines. (why does it have to be so complicated!!!!)
 
Before Avaya discontinued the BCM, it would have been a simple matter of adding 2 analog trunk licenses. Too bad they decided to back the wrong horse with the IP Office........good news is there are alternatives.

Telcodog, can you talk me through the steps, for adding lines, removing lines (all types), adding extn's, and adding and removing ip phones?

i have an idea, but i want to get this right, and tbh you have been the most helpful. Thank you again.
 
It's all pretty straightforward. For the lines on the main unit, you have to acquire licenses first. They are on pairs 1-4 of the telco connector and are numbered 61-64. Once they are licensed, they will show up under telephony>lines>Active Physical Lines. If you install a 4x16 or 8x16 in one of the expansion cabinets and have the expansion licenses, these trunks will show up as well.

As for the extensions, the BCM50 still has a default program which means that all digital station ports are assigned an extension number when the system is fired up for the first time. You can't delete them anyway. All you do is change them to suit your needs. The system will default to 3 digit extensions but you can change it if you wish. For the trunks, if you have a PRI card, just go into the Resources section, select telephony resources and select the expansion that contains the DTM-PRI card, disable it and double click where it says DTM-PRI and from the drop-down menu select None. You'll get warnings but OK them and it will remove all the programming associated with that card.

As mentioned peviously, you don't have to delete the ip sets, just leave them alone unless you need them. you might want to deregister whatever is registered now since you won't be using them or wish to configure them differently. Go back to the telephony resources and this time select IP sets. In the bottom pane, select IP Terminal Details. Highlight each one (if there are any in there) and click on the deregister button.

That's pretty much it.
 
So just to be clear the bcm50,even though it has the connections on the front of it for 4 lines, needs a code to make those lines work?

Under the Resources> Telephony Resources > there is a line that says:

does the fact that it is ENABLING, mean that there is lines already activated,they just need connecting? If i take the example of extns,they show as Enabling, but when they are connected, they show as enabled. is it the same for this?
 
You really need to get someone to come to your site to help you. This is some very basic stuff and you appear to be struggling significantly with it. According to your earlier post, you don't have licenses for the trunk ports on the main unit so you can't use them until you do.

I don't know what you mean you say it has the connections on the front. Trunks 61-64 are on pairs 1-4 of the Amphenol connector on the main unit, as are the 4 analog station and 12 digital ports.

Perhaps you could print off the System ID's or the MAC address underneath the BCM 50 unit. With that information, it's possible to find out the licences and system software version.
