Good Morning Guys,
I was called today to a customer with a Nortel BCM50 R3 which is displaying a Solid Red power Light, looks like the hard drive has gone however the customer's Nortel Administrator left the business about 5 years ago and the company no longer has the nortel login details.

Is there any way i can get the Acronis Images without having a sold-as number for Avaya?

The Customer is a Taxi Company which currently has the Phone Lines diverted to a mobile phone so i need to try and resolve the problem ASAP.

Regards,

Kenza

Red light could also mean there is an Alarm but depending what your issues is depends on if its Hard Drive or not.
I think you only need a Sold Tofor access to patches but I don't know anymore.

You can purchase an R3 Hard Drive (or Multi Image Drive) or you can speak with an Authorized vendor whom can download an image from Avaya support and also retrieve the current keycodes since those will be needed too.
Do you have a backup of programming or willing to go from scratch?

You could also replace the small mobo on the HD if its a Maxator from another....know issues.

As for NNADMIN Password I cannot talk to you about it on the forums.

Hi There,
Thanks for the Reply!

Just to clarify the issue the HDD Seems ok and i do have a backup.

The Unit comes on both the Power and Status light are Orange, The power light then turns to Red and five minutes later back to orange.

I cannot connect to the unit using the Engineer Port to get to the settings and restore the backup.

Regards,

Kenza

Hello Kenza

I'm around today, and as Curly has stated, there are some topics that can't really be discussed on this forum. Please contact one of us if you still need more assistance as it sounds as if you might be having problems.

It was a hard disk failure as the original was the good old Maxtor one!. I'm just getting the engineer sorted out now. We should have the BCM up and running again in a short while.

Hi Guys,
So i have put the R6 Image on as the keyfile was for R6 it seems that the power light flashes yellow then the status light stays solid then the power light flashes and the system reboots it does this for 15+ minutes and i cant see beyond that.

Any Suggestions?

Kenza

I suspect that putting a drive with R6 into a BCM50 that was previously using R3 won't work. The boot process is different for R3 and R6. When a BCM50 system is updated from R3 to R6, boot environment variables are changed to commands that work with the R6 image. The upgrade process also updates the FPGA and UBOOT images stored on the BCM50 motherboard to R6 images.

Effectively, you are trying to use the R3 version of FPGA and UBOOT and R3 boot commands to boot from the new R6 drive - it wouldn't be a very good idea to use this combination even if it actually booted.

Use a hard drive (or an SSD compatible with BCM50) with the BCM50 R3 image.

The situation is a little more complicated than it appears. Curly and Exmogger would know what I mean. Ha-ha.

If Kenza has a keycode file for R6, the situation might be a bit complicated. If I am not mistaken, KRS won't generate an R3 compatible keycode file after it was used to generate a keycode file for a higher version (e.g., R6).

The good news is that Kenza has a backup of the original configuration - the keycode file for R3 is in the backup archive file.

To recover the BCM50:
1. Get a drive with the BCM50 R3 image
2. Boot the BCM50 using the R3 drive
3. Restore the backup
The keycode file will be restored from the backup, so the unit should be functional again.
