Reposred from the Norstar forum

I hoping I'm not breaking any of the forum rules but I'm trying to establish the password parameters for a BCM50 system.

I have taken a BCM50 system out of service and I wanted to replace the system password with something more generic. Well, I don't know how to explain this beyond brain melt, but I can't remember the new password for the life of me. The old password was in the form of UpperCase-UpperCase-Number-Number-Number-Number-Number-Number-LowerCase-ExclamationMark

I initially tried using a simple password but it didn't meet the requirements. Eventually I found one that worked but, as I already said, my mind's a blank.

I know that Avaya/Nortel could access the system for a fee but the system is not worth the time and expense.

All I'm looking for is minimum length, alpha requirements if any (upper/lower case), numeric requirement if any and any special character requirement.

I can still connect via the nnguest account so connectivity is still good.

If I have to perform a level 1 reset, can anyone point me to a suitable resource that details the exact procedure. I looked at the documentation and that left me with more questions than answers.

Hopefully someone will have pity on a poor empty headed fool!

Thanks

Hello Barry

Having read your last message on the Norstar Forum, you really have to follow the reset procedure to wipe out the entire database to default the password. You will also need to have a copy of the keycodes.

Questions I have are do you have a backup copies or log files from the BCM system?. Using the guest account gives you little access onto the system.

Did you have more than one account added on the system?.

If the BCM is in use as I'm expecting it will be, then what will the impact be?. I'm guessing that your uses will have no lines/phones etc.

Having a backup will be very important. Usually with password problems, I've found that when changing them and having login problems afterwards for the situation to arise when the user at the keyboard had been in e.g. lower case, when they were actually in UPPER CASE. Therefore the password is the wrong way round.

i.e. typing in a password of Passw0rd came out as pASSW0RD instead!. It's worth a try checking again.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Hi Firebird Scrambler and thanks again for your help.

Fortunately the BCM had already been taken out of service. I managed to perform a level 1 reset and restore from a backup so I'm all good. Initially I had some difficulty with the reset procedure as my indicator LED status didn't seem to match the Nortel documentation. But, more by luck that judgement, I did work out how to reset. At least I was smart enough to have taken a backup prior to resetting the system so all is good.

Thanks again.
Barry
