Good afternoon

This is pertaining to calls coming in from an outside line
Our BCM50 recently choked up it's general delivery mailbox as no one was checking them. I cleared them all out but now when someone calls and the call is not answered, rather than go through to GD mailbox I get the Nortel message that the mailbox isn't initialized and then immediately after, the standard General delivery mailbox greeting asking to record a message.

I unfortunately don't have much experience with phone systems so after looking in the CallPilot and Element manager quickly, I'm not quite sure where it is I need to be looking.
Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Ben

I think the quickest way is to log into the mailbox as it's still in the default initialized state.

I'm guessing that you know the mailbox number which is usually the extension number.

If you go into Call Pilot, then you will be able to view the list of current users and you could probably work out which mailbox's are already in use from the activity report.

Because the mailbox wasn't made active, any calls to it will go to the general delivery mailbox. It best to log in from an extension using the Feature key and I think it's 981. Enter in the mailbox number and if you are doing this from the phone, it will ask you for the default one which is 4 zero's and you will have to enter in a new one. Also enter in a greeting and as it's all menu driven, follow the instructions are recording a message.

Thank you for the quick response! Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea what this initial mailbox is as I certainly didn't set it up and it gives no clue as to which one it is.

You can try all the extension mailbox's starting off at the first one and enter in 4 zero's. It should be easy to find. As I said, go into Call Pilot via the browser and look for all the assigned ones.
One or more of them will probably have never been enabled.

You can if required delete any mailbox's that aren't in use, but I would check the activity report and settings to find out if any greetings or messages were left.

Will do, thank you. Whilst I'm at it I will set the main line to go to only the GD, if you could fill me in on how to do so please?

Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

Assuming this issue is with normal incoming lines then start with finding out which sets are ringing on incoming lines.
One of those sets has the culprit mailbox behind it.

You need to be careful of the Forward No Answer Ring Count under Capabilities for each set as well as delete the mailbox if not used as FB mentions.

If you want inbound calls going to the General mailbox rather then a main greeting (AA) then make sure the reception set has a shorter ring count then the other sets.
Or if only reception is to ring then remove ringing from the other set and make the lines Appear Only.

To make sure General mailbox is behind a set go into 983 and change MBOX 100 (or 10) and point it to Ext:XXX (Reception)
