BCM50 expansion module?

I would think the BCM is already licensed for expansion module, no new licenses needed.

Correct.
Just power down the expansion cabinet then replace the MBM module, if still an issue then try another data cord between the 2 cabinets or replace the expansion cabinet.
Not that you must (or make sure) enable the MBM in Resources and have a set plugged into one of its ports.
