Hello All,

Has anyone experienced this?

Upgraded a BCM50e from 3.0 to 5.0. Followed all steps. Prior to upgrading the image, went through and tested some functionality.

Found one issue. I am unable to do a backup.

I get an error saying: "User does not have the necessary privilege to perform the operation". I am using the nnadmin account with administrator privileges.

I downloaded EM after the upgrade so I'm using the latest version of EM.

I'm using the latest version of Java.

BCM has the latest patch issued yesterday, 2-8-10.

I even reverted back to 3.0 and went through the process a second time. Same result.

I also tried using a different pc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem. I tried the same things you did with no success. Did you figure find out to fix it. Any info would be useful

Thanks

I was beginning to think I was the unluckiest Nortel tech around. I ended up opening a ticket w/ Nortel.

The fix was to restore the security settings back to factory default.

Two problems:

First, the factory settings are not available. This is addressed in the latest smart-update.

Second, there is a known issue where you cannot upgrade the Factory Image if you've already applied the smart-update.

So your kinda backed into a corner. At one point during this process you're going to have a system in front of you without a backup. A bit scary.

Try this:

1. Upgrade to 5.0

2. Create a test account w/ admin privileges.

3. Upgrade the Image files. I know it's passing the point of no return without a backup. Only way so far. Cross your fingers.

4. Apply the smart-update.

5. Log in using the test account and restore the security settings to factory default. Administration->Backup and Restore->Restore. Change "Restore from:" to "Factory Default". Click OK at the next window. Another window pops allowing you to select/deselect components. Un-check everything but security. This defaults all security settings and removes all accounts except nnadmin and nnguest, so make notes if necessary.

6. Log in using nnadmin. Use the default password. Change the password and do your backup.

Good luck!!!!

Bostech,

In your reply not sure what you mean by upgrading the image files.
Not sure what the smart-update is, or where you get it.

Please let me know. Thanks

The "factory image" files are used by the BCM if it is defaulted, all settings are set to how they were out of the box. This "factory Image" is not upgraded when you do the software upgrade. It is a separate step. If the factory image is not upgraded when you upgrade to R5, than if you ever default the system, it will revert back to the factory image that is on the hard drive, which would be whatever release the BCM was previously. Then you would have to re-upgrade the BCM back to R5.

The smart update is the monthly patch issued by Nortel. It can be downloaded from Nortel's website as long as your a Nortel business partner.

Hope this helps.

how long does the factory image update take? i started it about 35 minutes ago and it is still at the "applying" stage
