We have received a new BCM50 to install for a customer. I have checked all of the patches available online and applied them - this system is fully patched.

The system ships with a defaulted 3 digit dial plan, however the customer wants 2 digits. I have read the documentation and it stats that I can go from 2 to 7, and that I can actuall go from 7 to 2 (from a 5 or 4 to a 3 for example). It does state some service need to be restarted when you do this.

Well when I do it, I get an that states something like Error Happened, Error 2: 2-Digit DNs are not supported. Is this something new? Do I have to delete something before I attempt to change from 3 to 2 digits? I'm rather confused as the BCM50 itself and the documentation pretty much say you can do it. Where am I going wrong?

How are you trying to do the change? please explain.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I'm using Element Manager and going to the General Tab, and changing DN Length from 3 to 2.

When you go decrease in digits you must reprogram the VM.

Actually the BCM50 tells me it will reprogram the voicemail and something else (IVR maybe???) and then it says OK or CANCEL. I hit OK and it gives me an error.

Oh well, too difficult to figure out - so the customer will get 3 digit.

Try going to Administration -> Utilities -> Reset and do a cold start on the system. When it asks for the starting DN enter your 2 digit DN. I thought they got rid of 2 digit DNs though

I actually tried that and same thing (I even applied the 15 minute rule from Norstar) - no go.

It actually tells me 2 Digit is not supported - almost exact words.

To clairify, it says something like "Error Happened, Error 2; 2 Digit is not supported.

Yea I thought that they stopped using 2 digit dialing

Well, I almost died one in the CAT scan, but I'm weaker now....

Internal DN's need to be at least 3 digit.... external DN length could be set to two digits.... BCM is creating all available DNs during startup... so there will never be a 2 digit solution....

cheers,
