Hello customer has bcm450 with 8 remote ip softphones. Each softphone connected via vpn. Average softphone distance from customer site approx. 1000 miles. All are working ok except for occasional short gaps in speech. Can adjustments be made to improve audio performance? All ip programing and settings are in default. Thanks in advance

What codecs are you using? If you are using G711, change to G729 and see if it makes a difference.

Distance is irrelevant. What is relevant is packet loss and jitter over the link.

Try an IP set at the BCM location to rule out any problems there first. Any existing network issues may not be apparent with data but will reveal themselves when voice is placed on the network. If the sets work well there, then use G.729 codec and play with the jitter buffer. QOS is non-existant over the Internet, so you're pretty much on your own.

Many thanks to all for posting. Trouble completely clear after setting codec to G.729 and leaving jitter unchanged. All smiles here.
