Currently stuck on a Norstar system with 1.0 firmware. The whole thing (system and phone line situation) is a mess and I want out. My chosen exit strategy is a BCM450 but I have some questions and ideas I wanted to run by the community.

First, existing Norstar system has about 50-60 extensions. Maybe 20 lines run into it, about 8 analog and 12 digital/PRI. We use it for voicemail. It has the earliest software release our tech had ever seen (1.0) which can't even properly do caller ID, etc.

I want to move to a BCM450 system and re-use our existing digital handsets. I am trying to figure out what kind of licensing costs are going to be associated with the new system.

I know I need voicemail codes. Easy enough.

1. Do I need to pay for the digital handset sets?
2. Any licensing costs associated with running 1 full PRI into the system?
3. What are the downsides of trying to find a cheap, used BCM200/400 r4 w/ a bunch of VM licenses on ebay then buying the mirgration code in an attempt to save money?

Don't need UM or IP phones just yet. Any pitfalls/surprises I'm not considering that you experts can anticipate?

Thanks!

1. There is no licensing involved with digital sets. You would purchase either 16 or 32 port Media Bay Modules.

2. No licensing for a PRI. You would purchase a Digital Trunk Module.

3. As a Nortel Dealer, I wouldn't suggest purchasing anything on EBay. You don't know what your getting and who's going to support it.

Also, there is no migration path from Norstar to BCM, ie. "Migration Code". The best you could do is possibly re-use the phones you have, depending on the software release of the phones.

Good luck.

By migration code, I mean NTC01076KC.

Right.

That authorization code has nothing to do with the Norstar. That code allows you to migrate from a BCM 200/400 to a BCM450.

Again, there's no migration path from the Norstar to BCM.

Nope.. misunderstanding.

Not trying to migrate codes from the Norstar. I currently have a Norstar I want to completely scrap. I am looking at a way to save money by possibly buying a USED BCM400 with pre-existing keycodes for cheap then migrating the codes to my new BCM450 using the NTC01076KC.

NP, thanks for your help. I didn't really write it as clearly as possible and see where the confusion came in.
