Has anyone done a restore on one of these things from a backup?

I want to do one tonight right after doing a backup where I save the current voicemail messages. When I go into the restore section and take it right to the last step before doing it, it says that the restore will erase all existing voicemail messages. Is this true? The whole point of doing backups just before a maintenance procedure is so the system can be restored to the state it was in just before you started.

Customer will flip if I wipe out the current messages.

Thanks.

What sort of maintenance are you doing that requires you to restore the voicemail

If you are only want to back it up then why are you restoring it..

Restore does exactly that.
It restores the programming from the backup you have done..overwriting the existing data....

The original problem is that we can't see the existing numbers or add numbers to the system speed directory.

I want to just try a restore from a backup to see if it corrects the problem but that statement regarding losing the messages is worrisome. When we do a backup, it specifically asks if you want to save the messages. If it's not going to restore them, then what's the point.

So my original question stands...........will it erase the messages?

Yea i see what you mean

You should be able to restore only the telephony portion and leave the rest unticked,,

But Back up first,,then do a reboot to see if that fixes your problem before trying a restore.

At least you will have a full backup if any thing goes wrong.

I have only done restores on a bcm50 and it restores everything including messages if you had left the default options ticked when performing the backup.

I haven't had the need to do this on a 450 yet.

I did restore few times without any glitches, it's really faster then the bcm400..

From the way I understand it, the restore operation does erase all current messages but then restores them with the backed-up messages. If that's correct, you'll only lose messages that were not included in the backup.
