Hi guys...I know this has been mentioned before in other threads before but I can't find one that refers to a site with IP phones (threads have all been about digital).

So we have a network fresh soon and we are getting new VLAN's and will have to change the IP of our BCM. If I change the BCM remotely - LAN0, Default GW...can I still reboot or will someone physically have to be onsite to do the reboot? We have 90 IP phones hanging off this BCM...how can I tell in the BCM if they are using DHCP to pull their IP's? Also - I am assuming I will need to have our Network Team update the 242 Options so phones can pull the new IP? Will the existing 90 phones need to be 'cleared' or 'reset' to remove the old BCM IP and then rebooted to pull the new IP?

thanks so much..new to this stuff!
Robert

You can reboot remotely via Administration/Utilities/Reboot

You can look at Configuration/DataServices/DHCPserver to see it IP sets are DHCP or in the phones themselves.

On the IP sets you can press the Services button twice to see the IP options to change them per your network.

When the IP address on the BCM is changed, you may have to reboot the BCM but this depends on which LAN port you have connected onto with.

You might find that the Element Manager tool just disconnects and that you have you log back on using the new IP address.

As for the IP phones and any 2050 soft phones if they exist, they will all probably need to be individually changed and also check in Element Manager against all the IP settings that the correct details in all areas such as things like DHCP, File transfers etc have all been correctly updated.

Some of the IP phones will have different ways of configuring them and I have attached a guide I did for the older models.

thank you guys! - this definitely helps.

On the BCM450's - the DHCP Server settings - does this mean the BCM has an integrated router that works as a DHCP server dishing out IP's? If I currently look in the DHCP Services settings - I only see where you can enter in the IP of the BCM, Port, etc (like the string value on a 128 Nortel DHCP Option)...if I changed the IP of the BCM here and then rebooted all the phones and made sure they were set to DHCP - would it pull/register with this value? Is there a way to reset all 90 phones back to DHCP (I think they are all static now).

The BCM can be set so that DHCP is enabled for IP phones only. This can be a useful setting to use. I think that all your IP sets will need to be changed unless the network can be altered so that the original BCM IP address can automatically route calls onto the BCM's new IP address.

Nortel IP phones can be configured to use one of three modes - Static, DHCP - Partial and DHCP - Full.

If the phones use the static mode, you'll need to go to each and every phone, access the configuration and program the static IP of the phone as well as the BCM IP addresses (S1/S2).

If the phones use the DHCP - Partial mode, they get their IP addresses from the DHCP server, but the BCM IP addresses (S1/S2) are statically assigned, so you would still need to go to every phone, access the configuration and program the BCM IP addresses (S1/S2).

If the phones use the DHCP - Full mode, you can just power cycle the switch to which they are connected. After doing that, the phones would request a new address and server info from the DHCP server and connect to the BCM using the new IP address provided by the DHCP server.
