Afternoon All,

Looking for an Avaya BCM 450 multi image HDD backup file to restore a locked BCM 450. Does anyone know where one can be downloaded from?

Thanks for the help chaps.

Will order one today, am I right in thinking it's a simple case of retrieving the *.lic file from the old HDD, sticking it on the new one (if so, what directory) and plugging the new one in?

To apply a keycode file to your system, you should use Business Element Manager.

That said, doing that shouldn't be required when you replace a hard drive on a system that was using a recent software release (a copy of the license file is stored in flash memory on such systems).

Ah, so the *.lic is in flash memory? How would I go about retrieving it from my BCM?

Newer releases of BCM software (5 and up if I remember correctly) store the license file on the hard drive as well as in flash memory. Due to that, there is no need to retrieve the file when you're changing the hard drive.

Ah, ok - well the reason I need to change to HDD is because the login info is non standard on the system and I don't have access to the info.

Will the new HDD get me past that problem?

This is a release 6.0 Avaya version

Changing the hard drive would certainly get you back to the default password.

You could possibly contact Avaya support to initiate L2 reset for you using a support account - that would revert the system to defaults, too.

If you go to the FAQ section, there is a mention about obtaining the lic file from within a backup or log file. I've used this many times when having to rebuild BCM's for sites that I can't access via KRS due to the keycode having been generated with a different distributer.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I've also done what Brian has suggested when I'm really stuck. As stated, it only a Linux Reader tool but you can copy the licence details OK.

Firebirdscrambler,

In that case you just need to generate a "Try and Buy" license and you are now the "distributor" of that Bcm.

I've done it many times..!

I totally agree with you. I've also done this many times for the BCM 50 and 450 systems. Have you recently tried it on a BCM 400 system?. My comments were to point out that as long as you have a backup copy, then it's possible to obtain the keycode file without having to find someone who has KRS access.

I've mirrored the multi image HDD with Acronis True Image 2013.
This HDD when in the system, doesn't fully boot the system. I can ping it, but the status LED flashes amber-off-amber-off while the power and HDD1 LEDs stay solid green.
When trying to log on via BCM Manager I get the
Detector 'BCMDetector' cannot determine the device type for 10.10.11.1

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure I'm missing one or two vital steps, not sure what/where.

The multi-image hard drive does not fully boot the system and does not allow you to login using Element Manager. It must be first converted to the image of the release that you need.

You could use PuTTY to connect to the system and follow the menus. Personally, I would recommend you to read the manual that describes how to convert the multi-image drive.

I've always had to use PuTTY to choose the release that I want the multi-image drive to load. Connect to the OAM port and access IP address 10.10.11.1. Then login with nnadmin and the default password. Normally you are only given the choice to load the release that was previously used on the BCM. As was mentioned this drive will not auto boot.
