There a good replacement for the HDD trays, I'm looking at RAIDing my BCM450
 
My personal recommendation would be to switch to an SSD. The reliability of a single SSD will likely be better than two mechanical hard drives in the RAID 0 configuration.

Pretty much all 2.5" SSDs that claim backward compatibility with SATA II do work in BCM450 (as opposed to the BCM50). Typically, you cannot go wrong with any Intel SSD. I have Transcend 370S in my BCM450.
 
Tbh, I'm doing it more because I can then reliability. I might just get two 250gb SSD and still raid them XD
