Getting ready to do a BCM400 to BCM450 system & keycode migration where you replace the guys, migrate the codes, and send back the old MSC.

Right now my BCM400 has a 1000e expansion module with a few ASMs and an ATM.

I want to make sure I'm not missing anything I need. The BCM400 didn't require a keycode to use an expansion chassis but the BCM50 does. I see there is a SKU for a BCM450 expansion keycode which is # NTC01073KC.

Am I going to need this keycode to be able to continue to use my 1000e expansion unit after the migration?

Thanks for help. Stars always given.

BTW, the upgrade code I bought to migrate my system is the NTC06621KTE6 which is the non-RAID version.

The simple answer is yes, you will need the keycode in order to keep using the existing expansion cabinet. As to the migration keycode you should be fine unless you plan on having a raid card in the new 450, then you will need the additional keycode for that as well.

I don't think you have to purchase it. When you migrate the keycode it will add the expansion automatically. I have upgraded 400's with expansions, and only had the migration keycode.

I can also confirm that the expansion cabinet keycode comes with the migration keycode.

OK, so what I'm hearing is that the migration keycode that comes with the upgrade SKU I bought will just tack on an expansion code as part of the migration.

Just to be clear: The BCM400 I originally bought was new and wasn't the SKU that came with an expansion. I just bought an expansion after the fact and added it on to the system.

I'm aware of the RAID issue. It's just the upgrade SKU without RAID was $1200 less than I could find the one with RAID. So I'll just keep good backups and clones.

Yes, even if you didn't have an expansion cab, the expansion cab key would still appear once you migrate the license. As you mentioned in your original post the BCM 400 never required a key for the expansion; so I guess Nortel/Avaya just threw it in if you upgraded...for once.

If you are using the DMM tool to migrate data, don't forget to load the Unified Messaging keycode to the 400, 4.0 before using the migrate key. the unified messaging comes with the upgrade kit and is used by DMM to migrate data.

Also, you never mentioned the current version of the 400....I guess we are all assuming its currently 4.0. If it's 3.6 or 3.7, you must upgrade to 4.0 first.

tech,

Sorry, forgot to follow up.

Yes, I'm at r4 with latest patches.

Not planning on using DMM as I have a spare BCM400 chassis so my intent is to upgrade that chassis and manually reprogram from scratch going off existing BCM400 config rather than take my chances with DMM. Then I will decommission the BCM400 and send back the old MSC that I applied the upgrade code against.

Anyone know what kind of grace period I have to return the MSC?

Use to be 30 days but it's been about 8 months since my last upgrade.
