Hello Installing my first bcm450. One dsm32+, one dsm16+, one asm8+ and two dtms (both pri). All modules in expansion cabinet. All modules enabled and running except asm8+. Asm status lamp flashing. Here's the steps I've taken:

1.Configured asm8+ in EM, powered down, set dips according to manual, insert asm, power back up, reboot - status lamp still flashing.

2.Configured asm8+ in EM, powered down, set dips according to EM, insert asm, power back up, reboot - status lamp still flashing.

Any suggestions?

Don't know if this is relevant or not, but I just installed one last week and had an 8X16 in slot 2 that wouldn't come up no matter what I did. Spent hours with the useless Nortel first level support to no avail. I did try another module just to be sure but eventually I just put it in another slot and everything worked fine. Had to reconfigure everything but at least it got everything working. I put a GASM8 in the original slot and all 8 ports work fine. Weird stuff on this 450 sometimes.

The ASM8 is probably an older release NT5B16AAAE or NT5B16AAAF. The new firmware is not downloading properly & you can do a few things to solve this. Power up the whole system & when the lights on the ASM8 start flashing green for about 60 seconds unplug the power from the expansion unit.Remove the module & turn dipswitch 1 to the on position,re-insert module & power up expansion module.Firmware should load & you will be good to go.If that does not work stick the module into a BCM 400 4.0 & get the firmware to download from there. Also if this a brand new install i would take the ASM card back to where you got it & ask them for a newer one.Get them to give you an NT5B16AAAJ or NT5B16AAAJE5 version.

pccal,

Is this a known issue with Nortel? I searched the knowledge database for the problem with the 8X16 and nothing showed up for this type of problem. Is there some matrix from Nortel that shows which modules work with which system? This could have a huge impact on systems being upgraded where they probably have older modules.

Personally. I have already upgraded a half dozen 400's to 450's and not run into this problem yet, only this one on this new install.

Please let us know.

Thanks.

Yes it was bulletin ID:2009009608 Rev 1 released 2009/7/16

Many thanks pccal tried your procedure in the 450 and it worked like a charm. This is an older module. Will have supplier send new release module as you suggested also. Thanks to everyone for responding.
