We are using a small MP3 player plugged into our BCM400 4.0 system today for MOH. It sounds terrible (low volume, broken up, etc...) while on hold, but if you plug the MP3 into some headphones sounds great. Wondering what might be going on there? What are others using as a music source for MOH and how is it working for you. We just brought in Comcast digital music service to give that a try.

what type of cable are u using to connect between the music source and BCM? What you're using between the two is probably what is causing the problem? Did u take a pair of headphones and cut the earbuds off?

No. It's a radio shack patch cord to fit the mini audio jack on the MSC one one end and the MP3 player on the other?? We didn't hack or splice any cords together.

Plug going into the BCM needs to be mono. I think the MP3 player will have a stereo jack fr an output. Is your radio shack cable stereo-mono? If not, then that's the problem.

I'll check that out and let you know what I find. Thanks for the info. VOJ

Why not just take the music files off the MP3 player and load them onto the BCM using music manager

In addition to improving MOH quality, mgmt wants ability to vary music source on demand. So we really have two separate issues here.

What format do the music files need to be in if you use Music Manager: .wma or .wav or .mp3 ....

Got it. 8bit mono 8khz .WAV files seem to be doing the trick. I tried the 3.5mm Stereo to Mono adapter and that didn't seem to help. Not using Music Manager and WAV files and the sound quality is MUCH better. Volume level is consistent and no choppiness in playback. It ain't like listening to a MP3 player with stereo headphones, but it's a huge improvement. Does anyone know if the BCM450 (if we were to upgrade) has any further MOH improvements?

I am using music Manager for the last couple months. Try music from different sources with better original rip quality, this improved our sound quality.

I noticed my inbound external customers and my inbound internal lines for management also play music on hold now.
