hi
i'm having problem with my bcm,

this morning, we can't dial out to any number, but internal extensions work. we can receive incoming calls, so i rebooted the BCM, then everything worked again. After a couple minutes later, we can still dial out, but when people dial in, there's no auto attendant anymore, it just keeps ringing and as soon as they hang up, there's a 61-3-2 alarm. Other alarms I saw were 372-0 and 51-3. Outside callers can still dial the DID numbers to the users, but when outside callers call the main line it just rings and rings.

we've rebooted again and same symptoms.

on the front of the BCM400 4.0 linux box
the Feature (nortel symbol) light is not on.

i'm not able to connect to the BCM using the 'Nortel Business Element Manager'.
I could ping the box ok

does anyone know what this light means and does anyone know what's going on with our system?

thanks

Hard drive is likely on the way out.

Can you get into it via the serial port on the front?

difficult to tell. The unit is very far away.
i'll need to take a trip out there.
but thanks anyways.
just wondering if anyone knew what the Nortel symbol light was for on the front of the BCM.

That's the system status light. When its off it means that not all of the services are running. If it's on, it means all of the monitored services are up and running. If it's flashing. it means a failure in one or more of the services (this is what you see when it's booting up until it goes on steady)

That's why I was wondering if you could get in via the serial port. I'll bet the Apache server isn't running (or is stopping soon after bootup). If you can get into the command line, you can turn it back on with the net start apache command.........but you have to be local to do that (or have remote ip access and can run putty).

i'm not sure when i can make it out there.

but, thanks for your help.

i have putty, and i connected briefly using SSH typed in my login name, and cursor just sat there, then disconnected. I never could get a connection again. When you say local, you mean plugged in using a serial cable locally on the BCM right?

You may want to power down for 5 minutes and then power up again. I have seen a power cycle fix things that a reboot would not fix.

thanks.
we've tried turning the BCM off, unplugging the power, then powering it back up.

we're having a technician look at the unit today.
