I have a BCM400 that I have managed (read looked at in the rack while it works happily) for the last eight years and I finally have a request to add music on hold. I have managed to get it connected to the network, software installed on my machine, and even found the music page under applications in the Element Manager. I changed the music source to Music Manager, but when I select Launch Music Manager I get a command prompt window with C:\Program Files\Nortel\Business Element Manager\BusinessElementManager\bin> as the prompt. I don't know what to do from here.

Also, on the phone menus I see that I can choose between silence, tones, and music. I tried tones, but nothing happens. How would I go about making the tones work? I tried dialing feature86 in to each phone to enable music, but that didn't help.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I see that there is a recording there already called silence. Is there a way to back that up before I add my recording? If not I'll just leave it there since it is only 2 seconds. The way I understand it is it will play all the recordings listed on a loop so I would have my recording with 2 seconds of silence in between.

"I don't know what to do from here"
Enter the IP address of the BCM into your browser, you will find all guides/docs.
Click "file manager" then "upload" to load a file

Wav files must be recorded as:
Bit rate 8 khz
Audio sample size = 16 bit
Channels - 1(mono)
Audio Format -PCM

"Is there a way to back that up before I add my recording?"
Use the Backup and Restore Utility, select Restore/FromFactoryDefault/ once you proceed it will then bring up a window for you to select what to backup or restore, select "IP Music"
Doing the above may also help this issue if it's corruption:
"I tried tones, but nothing happens"

"so I would have my recording with 2 seconds of silence in between"
The recording of silence is for when your Select NONE for On hold.
Just delete it, you will get a second or two between songs just like any other program or device or record or 8 track or cassette or CD and so on.

Are you indicating that the tones should be working now? With just a silence track? If so, where do the tones "come" from? I was just going to replace the silence track with a tones track.

Make sure that your settings are like this

You need to select the "On Hold" drop down box for Tones or Music and have Background Music ticked if you want any phones to play it when Feature 86 is entered in.

My Music settings are

Make sure that your music file is set for 8 bit mono. I have attached a funny one that you can test.

No

However I recant "The recording of silence is for when your Select NONE for On hold"
Might be just a sample, I forget.

I checked my settings against the screenshots above and all looked good. I used audacity to configure a sound file, uploaded, and nothing. Not sure what I did wrong. I got a working file from a buddy at another business and it works great. I just got a bunch of calls from folks that had their set music turned on wondering why their phone was playing music. That was fun. [dazed]

I've done some more reading and I found that if you remove all files, including the silence track, calls that are placed on hold will auto disconnect after three minutes. I simply added the music track and removed the silence track from the playlist. It is still on the hard drive in the event it needs to be added back.

All is working now. I will continue to work on adding my own music/message to the system. I saw several posts where people just kept working the settings until they got it to work.

Thanks for all the help.
