Hello,
we are running a bcm400 ver4 and i am trying to make the I2004 and the I2050 soft phones work for our setup. we are looking to give remote tech's either the I2004 or I2050 softphones to use at thier location talking to our bcm400 over the wan and the bcm is behind a sonicwall firewall. the trouble i am having is with a hard or soft vpn either connection works fine. the president of the company swears this should work without vpn putting qos aside for the test. i can connect the laptop with the i2050 soft directly to a cable modem point it to the public ip and it ramps just fine. the I2004 will register but not fully ramp up on the same connection? if i place both behind a netgear or another sonicwall router they will again register but neither will ramp up completely even in the dmz. can anyone point me in the right direction. what am i doing wrong on the client side once it is behind a router with no vpn to the office. i have port forwards and tried with dhcp or static.

Are you giving the phone a public IP and pointing it to the BCM's published address (which is also a public IP)?

It sounds like you're having a NAT'ing issue. You may want to look into Cone NAT and/or STUN.

yes it is both. the bcm at office is on the public ip and i have port forward rules to the bcm for the udp ports needed and on the client side the router is dhcp and i have tried direct isp dhcp. and this seems correct because if i hang the client laptop directly on the net get dhcp from isp the i2050 soft phone registered and ramps up to function.(so i think the office bcm port forwards are correct) on the other hand the I2004 will register but not ramp up. as soon as i go behind a router both can register but not ramp up. is there any port forwards i have missed? i have on both sides udp 7000 forwarded to bcm and laptop on client side. i also have udp ports 51000-51200 on both sides. i also have udp 28000-28255 on both sides. anything else? i have tried putting the client in the dmz but still it will register but not ramp completely.

I'll think about this but my first suspicion is that port forwarding is fine but something's getting dropped on the remote-side during NAT'ing.
