Hey guys,
I have been reading the threads for hours now and no luck, so here goes.
I aquired a BCM 400 from a client. Thye had used the system for at least a year or so. I do not have any IP adressing or passwords for the system, basically I know nothing about BCM's or this system in particular, except what i see, and what I have read in the last few hours.
I tried to connect to both the lan ports, but I get no responce on:
10.10.10.1
10.10.10.2
10.10.13.1
I was able to use a null modem cable and connect to the serial port using hyperterminal bundled with my XP home laptop and the following settings:
9600 8-N-1 and both Xon/Xoff as well as none for flow control.
Pressing enter and or Ctrl-y gets me a logon screen asking for username, then domain and then password.
I have tried many combinations with no result, including the defualts of ee_admin/PlsChgMe! and supervisor/PlsChgMe!.
Part of my problem is I have to guess at the domain,I have tried blank, nortel, Nortel, and a few others, but all with no success. I do not know the client's domain (or if they even had one).
The system does have several station cards, and I was wondering if I could find station 21/221/2221 or whatever it is, and find a way into programming that way, that will be my next step.

My goal is to get into the system if possible. If not then to defualt the system without loosing the keycodes that may have been previously installed, and if that is not possible, then to default the system to complete factory original. the end result is to have a system I can resell to a completely new client.
I do not have ANYTHING except the BCM cabinet. No software, no images, no Cd's, nothing. I do have T7316E phone, as I have sold many Nortel KSU systems. I do not know what version of BCM software is installed.

Any advice will be much appreciated!!!

If you can't get into the system, you wont be able to recover the keycodes. If you can get in though the serial port, then you can find out the IP address.

You need to use a crossover cable from the laptop to the BCM.

Set the laptop to config auto to try to get the IP address range.

Port 1 default is 10.10.11.1
Port 2 default is 10.10.10.1

Leave domain Blank

Older version

supervisor
visor

Ace,
DAMN, you are the man.
Username of supervisor
Blank domain
and password of visor worked like a charm.
thank tons for the help!!!!!!

Ok Now that I am in the system.
It is a BCM 3.0 system.
Does anyone have a set of installation and user manuals for the BCM 3.0?

Or does anyone have an image I can use to upgrade it to a newer version?
JW

All the manuals are on the BCM, on the first menu. You may be able to find the upgrade Auth code on Ebay but you will need a vendor to get the Keycode using the Auth code.

Ace,
I have heard you say that LOL. That the manuals are on the BCM. I have gone through the menuing system of the BCM with every option available and the only thing I find that is even close is the manufacturer's release note under the initialize menu.

Possible reasons:
#1 supervisor and visor does not give me sufficient access to see everything.
#2 the system is so old: 3.0, that they are not on there.
#3 I need to access them through the command line, in which case i can't seem to find them, I looked.
#4 I am not smart enough to find them, this is of coure the most likely posibility. LOL.

In regards to the upgrade auth code and keycode, I understand, I already searched E-Bay and found a few options I will probably pick one soon. As for a Vendor, that is not a problem, My vendor that I use for all my KSU purchases can set me up.

Thanks for your continued help, and please accept my apologies that you again had to say "they are on the BCM"
JW

What is the IP address of your BCM?

Use a crossover cable to the IP port and use IE to access, the first menu screen is where you find the manuals.

When you access Unified manager, click on Documentation and you can even download Adobe Reader if you don't already have them.

To default the unit, enable and run the quick start wizard, et voila. System default at 3.0.

You can't get the manuals though the serial port, only the IP port.

Ok well I was finally able to access the system through IP.
After trying IE 7.0 which did not work, then trying IE 6.0 which did not work, then trying Mozilla, I finaly got it with Mozilla. Only Mozilla would display the page using the ip:6800. This included trying on two completely different machines! On both, only Mozilla worked.
Now with the supervisor/visor access I can only see a limited amount of things on the system. Since ee_admin/PlsChgMe! is not working/has been changed, any recomendations on how to get full control of the system?
As always help is much appreciated.
JW

Change the ee_admin password under user manager while logged in as supervisor (assuming that it has permissions to modify the passwords).

IE 6/7 will require you to connect using address>:6800

Magna,
Supervisor/visor does not allow me permission to change the ee_admin account.

using ie 6 and 7 address>:6800 did not work.
only Mozilla firefox worked. I don't know why, maybe it is because I have patched my IE's and newer versions of IE cause conflict with this older version of BCM (3.0) but it did not work except in mozilla.

So now that I am in the system. The question still is:

Does anyone know how I can reset or unlock the ee_admin account?

I am trying my complete list of windows NT utilities, but so far I am not having any success, I think this is because it is winnt embedded. I can see the ee_admin account, I know it is there, but I can not unlock it, or change the pasword. Without that I do not know what I can do to make this system usable.
JW
P.S.
As always all help is very much appreciated!

when you are logged in as supervisor and you goto management/User manager and do a modify on supervisor and look at what it's permissions are.

Ok I feel like an ass, wait let me look in the mirror...................
Oh gee I look like an ass also. LOL
Ok when logged in as supervisor, Most of the options at the top were greyed out, so I assumed that meant I did not have permission to access them. I realize now, based on what Ace said, that I do have access, I just needed to dig through the menu on the left hand side to see the options I was looking for, then the menu list across the top becomes available when I am in the correct screens on the left hand menu. Supervisor is part of the admin group, so i was able to edit the ee_admin acount, as well as do anything I needed to in the system.

Also as an update turning on (allowing popups) also fixed my ie6/7 login issues.
Ace two starts to you, for some unbeleviable help!!!
Thanks
JW

Ok Next issue.
Anyone know how to default into the call pilot?
I tried a combination of paswords including 0000, 1234 and many other common ones, but none worked.
JW

If know one gives you the answer by tommorrow morn i will post from work.

Easiest way to default call pilot manager password (only one I know) is to connect a phone with 3 soft keys under the display to the bcm. Once connected press feature 985. This will give you the vmail dn on the display. Press 9. It will then prompt for a password. Spell out RESETSMPSWD on the keypad. That will default the password to 0000.

Thats the best way to default the Call Pilot. ^

As far as your cabinet... 3.0 is ancient. 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 4.0 have all been introduced since then. If you need some help with upgrading the software, let me know. We also provide Tech Support for the BCM's.
