Just curious, does anyone know why the BCM400 was replaced with the BCM450?

The BCM 200/400 used a IDE drive whereas the BCM50/450 uses a SATA hard drive. The BCM 450 processor is faster and more features are available. It's still supported and subject to updates, although I don't think there will be many more now.

I don't think the old BCM 200/400 was able to work with some of the later Microsoft applications and operating systems such as Windows 7 64 bit etc.

As for the system itself, it's still a good beast to use. It's usually only the hard disk and power unit that suffers any problems.

I think it was to align the larger platform with the more advanced BCM50, and it gave two clear choices, the 200/400/1000's we're originally operated with Win NT, this was later replaced by a Linux build when they launched the BCM50, in the end the BCM450 was a lot faster and efficient than the BCM50 making that look sluggish, by Rls5.0 they had aligned the software builds, doing away with the sometimes confusing differing releases.

Shame really, the system could of gone on to do a lot more, bit of a shame they never phased out the old Norstar template they we're working from, I think this held it back.

Yes I agree. When will they stop supporting the BCM line? Do you think a third party might take over future support?

No lol

October 1, 2012 the last day for the sale of systems excluding upgrades.
October 1, 2015 will be the last day for upgrades, expansion and any authorization codes
October 1, 2018 last day for Avaya support of the BCM product line

The good news is that the Norstar/BCM lives on in the eMetrotel system. Go to emetrotel.com and check it out.

I had heard some discussion about someone being able to hack into the programming to provide aftermarket authorization codes for expansions and upgrades. like what was done with the NAM.Anybody heard about that?

It would be great if there could be an after market support for the KRS. The NAM's and CP's have been accessed for obsolete keycodes etc.. There should be enough of a market after 2018 to encourage someone to create a way to continue to get support. It would great if Avaya just sold off the KRS to someone, maybe they would get a piece of the pie for codes generated.

I just took a 22 year old 616 off line not because it was not working but because the customer needed CID and VM and wanted new T7316e sets.

If the 616 had CID in it I bet they would still be in service all over the place.
