I am trying to replace a phone that is on a BCM200 switch. When I plug the new phone in, it's asking for a password and DN...I put the system password in that I use to log into my system and I put in the DN I am wanting to replace but it says DN already in use. Why would those pop up in the first place?

This sounds like an IP set,if going to use a new phone to replace a DN that was being used you need to deregister the DN in the IP terminal/NORTEL set list. Then that DN will be avaliable for use again.

The password is for security to stop anyone from registering an ip phone and gaining access to your system.
You should disable registration when you exit the programming.

Derigister the ip phone first.
The connect your new one

Enter password then dn number

Disable registration when finished for security reasons

Ok, got the new phone installed with the DN but it's stuck in local mode.

So its an SRG you are working on..

You will need to go to .... services---srg
highlight the extn you want to redirect..
it will probably say offline---the rest will say Normal mode

Click on Configuration/Modify
Click on redirect..

If I go under configuration/Telephony/Sets/Active Sets...it says it's online but it's in local mode.

What software version are you running.
The more details provided about your system the better.
Saves having to ask a lot of questions

is it 4.0 see below
is it 3.7 see previous post

This makes a difference on how you approach it.
For bcm element manager
Local mode indication
When an IP telephone is in local mode, a message is displayed on the phone to indicate the local
mode state to the user. The default setting is Local Mode.
To change local mode indication
1 On the SRG50 Element Manager, navigate to Configuration > Resources > Telephony
Resources.
2 Select the IP & Application Sets row .
3 On the Details for Module: Internal subpanel, select the IP Terminal Global Settings tab.
4 The Advertisement/Logo field specifies the message that provides local mode indication.
Change as required.
