BCM200 - New set - internal calling won't work 1

Hi all,

I've just put a new set into the office. The line was already configured, as when I plugged in the phone it automatically received a DN and could immediately call other office phones and make external calls. It can also receive calls from the outside. However internal calling (by dialing the extension from an office phone) does not work. It rings twice and then gives a 'your call cannot be completed as dialed'.

The system is a BCM200. The Element Manager is version 2.32.0.

I'm sure there's something simple to setup, but the last system I looked after (although I'm obviously not a telecom guy) was configured via meridian programming so I don't know where to look.

sounds like the phone is primed to pick up a line when you go off hook. You would need to select the intercom button to make an internal call. The intercom button will be at the very bottom right of the phone. So, if you have a 10/16 button phone it would be the 2nd column of buttons all the way at the bottom (Unless that's a handsfree button then it would be directly above that). If you have an 8 button phone it would be the bottom button in the one column of 8 buttons.

Thomen is right. That recording is coming from telco not the phone system.

After hitting the intercom button I was able to dial the new extension internally. That is the only extension that needs this done though. For others I can just pick up the phone and punch in their extension. Is this something I need to setup in the dialing plan somewhere?

I should note that there are two intercom buttons on my sets. The very bottom right is lit up immediately when I pick up the receiver. I can make internal and external calls this way (except to the new extension). The button directly above it is also labelled intercom, and I have to press this button to call the new extension.

Confused

Are you having an issue with the new phone or are you having issues calling the new phone for all other phones?

Apparently we have something setup here where to dial all extensions below a certain number you have to press one intercom button, and to dial all numbers above that number you press the other one. Strange... but not something I'm going to spend a ton of time on.
