I have BCM 400 that is locks up every 20 minutes. All phones have a display but no call can be processed. Sometimes the system will reboot. Here is a sample Error report:

*ERROR** Received EMS_EVENT_CONNECTION_LOST from MSM;MPS service aborted

Mgs:: Shutting down due to MSM communication failure

The Media Path Management sub-system unexpectedly became offline - terminating

Service Manager - MSC Driver (MscService) has stopped unexpectedly. This will affect normal operation of all services that interact with CoreTel. Service Manager is attempting to restart the service.

Can anyone give their thoughts about what is happening?

There was also an alarm 52.1 on the attendant console.

I'm not sure if I have the correct Alarm message but here is the code for 52.

Alarm 52 = A Trunk Cartridge has been disconnected.

Record the code displayed on the alarm telephone.
Identify the module that caused the alarm.
Power down the system.
Check all connections to the Trunk Module.
Check that the Trunk Cartridge is properly seated.
If the problem persists, replace the cables.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Thanks! Also, this is a BCM 400, rls 4.0.

I would like to hear from anyone else has some additional thoughts.

I would replace the system for quick recovery, move the cards, regenerate keycode and restore the backup. I'm thinking you had a bad MSC or Power Supply. You could isolate it in your lab.

Whether it is a bad hard disk or a bad power supply is the question. I was hoping the collective experience of everyone out there would be able to point to one, the other or something else.

I'd power down the system and remove the hard disk. I use a IDE / SATA to USB connecter to check the state of the disk from another computer. I would also check with a meter the power voltages.

Finally I would check out the capacitors to see they are leaking or split etc. Usually it's old old Green ones, however it's worth a check. Also check for any build up of muck and dust. A number of my customers have systems that have had to be cleaned out with a vacuum, This included removal of the media bay modules and most or all of the major components.

There isn't a quick answer to this, except to follow these recomendations and other suggestions that members may wish to add in.
