I have a BCM 400 r4.0.2.03a and had to abort a back up today. (long story) Couldn't get back into BCM via EM so rebooted and now vmail doesn't come up nor can I get into the EM. Rebooted 2x reset cards etc and nothing. Can make and receive calls but no voice mail. I haven't connected to the serial port...but did connect the monitor and keyboard and get error 17. I can hit f2 and get into that area no problem. (Found from previous post that that's usless...) and all I can come up with is clear the event logs and also see if what init status say's. My guess is that it's hung still trying to do a backup or maybe the hard drive got corrupted. Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance!

Had a tech do that once. He paid for the replacement drive.

Oh yeah. He sat there all night reprogramming the system, since his backup failed to restore.

EM version 50.16.0.0.....Had to abort because because the back up froze up. Tested hard drive on another BCM and it doesn't reboot. Looked through docs and have asked a few other techs of any problems aborting during a backup, so thanks for the input Doc, but had no choice! Also Docs post isn't going to fix the problemo.......I'll post back with results. Thanks!

Backup freezing or getting "shadow error" when attempting backup usually mean the hard drive is about to die.

Try to get a replacement hard drive with the latest 4.0 software(4.0.2.03a) as with older version it could default the core telephony.
Not too good if you don't have a backup.

re-iamge the HDD, if that does not work hdd needs to be replaced :>

Okay...got another hard drive with the same software on it and when it first came up the telephony was still the same...but then the BCM re-booted and wiped it out..Did a restore and noticed that it was getting an error that the software was a mis-match???? The voice mail, key codes restored except for telephony...so defaulted system, loaded previous patches then did a restore and it finally came up??? I'm planning on getting a spare hard drive and doing an image in case this happens again. This has failed before, but we had to relplace other parts as well. Thanks for all of your help.

Sounds like you have commercial power problems. Do you have the system grounded along with patch panels and the UPS?

That's what I was thinking that there were power issues. The system isn't grounded. We inherited this system here recently and I have asked about any power issues and they have had some in the past, but not lately. But they could be having some after hours who knows.. No patch panels, just 66 blocks.
