Hey all, due to our netowrk nazi, I have not been able to coem to this site. Finally he opened up the pipe just a little bit.
Anyway's, I currently have a BCM50e with basic m72xx phones hanging off of it, but we are looking for a change, that being VoIP. My question is, since we have a sig. server at our main site, and network connectivity between sites, do I need to have the PRI plugged into the BCM once going VoIP, and what purpose would that serve? I ask because the same network nazi that has choked everyone's access has his stuff set for VoIP and not for sharing the PRI going to that site. Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks

I am changing from a BCM just running 7208 phones to full VoIP.. I figured out that technically the PRI just needs to go to the Cisco switch where I will be plugging in the phones.

My other question is analog lines and how to carve those out being VoIP.

What kind of network connectivity do you have between sites and have you provisioned each site to see that it qualifies for VOIP? How much available bandwidth do you have? What codec will you be using? What will the MTUs be? What is your plan for QOS? What about power issue?
There is much to do to make your network "VOIP ready".

Assuming your PRI is a voice PRI and not the "network connectivity" you were referring to, this could be used as a backup link or you can use it for a data PRI instead.

The PRI is a voice circuit. As far as bandwidth etc. my network guy does all of that, and I have IP phones running off the same network now. This is the first site that we want full voip. Power issue, what power issue?

Currently at our smaller sites we share a pri and carve it up to voice/data. Usually I get 8 maybe 10 channels and the network has the rest. We use adtrans csu to break it up. Now going voip, the pri would terminate completely into his cisco stuff.

Still a little fuzzy on what you are trying to do here, but back to your original question. The PRI (assuming this is a point to point circuit and being shared with data) does not connect directly to the BCM. However, you do need a network connection from the BCM to a network switch or router (via patch cable). The PRI would then be provisioned installed and connected by your network folks or network nazi's(whatever you prefer to call them).

Dang guess my reply didnot take. Power I already have the required power plugs for those phones.

I found out that I need voip trunling keycodes on the bcm to make this work. So for the interim since I have the ip set keycodes, I am rolling out the i2004 sets, working off of the carved out pri until I get my trunking set up.
Thanks all for the help
Oh the trunking will also allow for me to go analog voip as wll.
