doing an upgrade on a BCM 50 1.0 s/w to 3.0. got thru step one and went to apply the key code and it comes back "invalid keycode" double checked system id# tried to put it in manually, even redownload the keycode and tried that. i hate to reboot the system, for i am not sure how the system will react since i have started the upgrade with the first cd???

has anybody seen this problem or any suggestions...

Joe

Open up the keycode file with notebook.
Check the contents and see if the upgrade key code is there.

i opened the file up and it looks good, key code is there and the id# matches up.

i will try entering it thru a set and see if that work.

I have heard techs complain at times that uploading the file or entering the fields in EM dont work at times but through the set it always worked.
I just cannot remember system type or versions or if this is a known issue with Nortel.

we are going to try loading the key code thru the set, left site already, the BCM 50 is up and working as it sits.

i will let you know how it turns out.

When I download keycodes I rename them so I can refer to them later if I need them. One time I made one little mistake on the rename of the keycode. I put spaces in the renaming of the keycode. The same exact thing that is happening to you, happened to me. I renamed the keycode file taking the spaces out, and it worked like a charm. Maybe, this happened to you......

well....i have tried it thru the phone using 9*8 and it did not work.
the file has been downloaded twice, and the file name was not changed, well not changed the second time i know.

we are scratching our heads on this on this....we have double check that the keycode enabler is for 1.0 to 3.0 upgrade. the system is at 1.0. the upgrade code is 211

at this point we will try agian on monday, thanks for the suggestions up to this point...keep them coming, cause i don't know...lol

Just a question. Have all the latest patches been put on the cabinet at version 1. Maybe the version 1 software has to be topped out with patches before it will let you do the upgrade. I know thats a problem now because you don't want to do a reboot. If you have a recent backup of the system though, doing a reboot wouldn't be that risky. Also just a thought have you ever upgraded or reinstalled a newer version of element manger. Maybe it has something to do with your version of element manager.

Verify the Sys ID, serial #, and s/w level in the KRS matches what's on your system. I recently tried generating a key code and when I put the sys ID in the KRS, it gave a different serial # and s/w level. We had to get Nortel involved.

i have bumped the keycode download against krs and it matches. i even made sure that everything in krs was in the bcm 50 thinking maybe there is a mismatch some where. everything looks good there.

LKEV, you mentioned the release of the element manager. we have done ugrade before no problem with the same laptop we are using now, BUT..we recently installed a bcm450. with that said, when we backed up the bcm 50, it added and extra step to it say something to the effect of saving configuraton and apllication programming (that is not word for word) but it was something we haven't seen on a bcm50 back up, but was noticed on the bcm450. so thinking that the element mgr is too new for the bcm50 at 1.0s/w is a thought.
another but here, but the keycode would not take through the teleset F9*8, so i don't know

unless something works soon, i think we are going to reboot monday, restore the programming if we have too (hoping it will work) and try again.

and the answer to current upgrades is NO. just to answer a question mentioned earlier, and this could be the root of the problem. this system is not under contract. and i believe the few we have done in the past where up to date.

Let us know how you made out. I am curious. I have to go from a BCM50 2.0 to a 3.0 this week, and I am kind of curious to see how you make out.

right we are getting geared up for ITAS, will keep you posted on the events to come.....
