Hello Everyone,

I have a site with a BCM 450 on R6 software, they had some power issues and we can no longer log in using Element Manager.( I have confirmed Element Manager works by logging into another BCM) We can login to the web page or through the serial port so we know the network connection is working.

Has anyone ever tried copying files from the drive of a working system to one with issues? If so any idea what partition holds the element manager files?

It would appear that the power outage has caused some disk corruption. As you have a serial port connection, then I would access the serial port and do a controlled reboot.

As it does a reboot, there is a point early on where you can do a disk check, Make sure that you do it. You may have some bad sectors and watch it boot up.

Hi Firebird,

I have cloned the drive to a new hard drive and also ran the disk check, it looks like some of the files are to corrupt to repair. I would just rebuild it but this is a new customer and they did not have a backup :(

Did you try doing a Restore and choosing "Factory Default"?
That would erase software corruption.

I forgot to add that the OAM LAN port usually uses the IP address of 10.10.11.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.252.
If you can log in that way, then try to do a full backup.

Firebird I have tried the OAM port as well as the Lan ports, I can only login to the web interface or serial. Element Manager wont connect although it does recognize that it is a 450. Curly I have not factory defaulted it yet, they do not want to have to redo all the voicemail programming.

Sorry I forgot the issue, "cannot login"

I was referring to Factory Default within BEM.

But if you could, just for the record:
In Factory Default you have multiple choices to default, I might start with Data+Network maybe.
From BEM
Restore/FromFactoryDefault/Restore/OK/Unchecked all but Data+Network

But from Serial only (sadly) Configuration reset or Software reset as you know.

You didn't really say why you cannot log in, the symptom, safe to say "Device cannot be detected"?
Was there ever remote access via public IP, try it if so.

I had this one issue 2 weeks ago where my one PC could log into all BCM's on my list but not this one 450, I tried my new PC and it worked!
So maybe load BEM on a couple PC's and try but do not forget to remove the MD5 references from java on new BEM installs and if java was updated on existing.

Thank you for the reply Curly, I have tried multiple pc,s to login and have removed the java security as well. You are correct it does give the device cannot be detected message. As far as I know this system has never had remote access setup.

Are you able to connect to the BCM via port 22 (SSH) using e.g. PuTTY etc?. I can't see that you problem is related to the Lan Ports as you are able to access it via the browser.
Have you tried a different login account?. You might want to try the top level one of nnsupport in case your nnadmin one is denying you access. This is assuming that your copy of Element Manager is OK at accessing other BCM phone systems.

Hey CalgaryJeff, how did you go with your login issue? Were you able to connect via SSH?

I was able to connect with a serial port and I could connect using the web interface just not Element Manager. I did not try SSH. I think we are going to rebuild a new drive and reprogram it.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to connect using BCM Monitor?

It's a BCM450 Firebird.

Software (BEM or Java) or corruption on the drive is my vote but not hardware.

As for my coincidental above... it was not, client did not open the correct port for me to dial in.

Thanks Curly. I was aware that it was a BCM450 at release 6.0, but I haven't come across a system where it wasn't accessible via EM but OK via the browser.

Jeff, what version of Element Manager are you running as BCM 50/450 release 6.0 should really be using the Avaya release of 62.0.5.
If you are using the Avaya release 62.0.5, then perhaps try the older Nortel release of Business Element Manager v60.3.0.exe

You can download it at
ftp://BCM_Element_Manager:BCM_Element_Manager@somertel.ddns.net

This version wasn't fully compatible at release 6.0 when selecting the SIP trunks etc, but it's still good in other areas to check with as this tool isn't dependant on Java as much as the newer release is and that the tool loads it in e.g. C:\Program Files x86 rather than the .bcm folder.

Firebird Scrambler is correct - if you're able to login via the web interface, which relies on the LAN port, then that's not it.

Can you login via SSH and try the following command: netstat -pntlu >/tmp/output.txt

and then post the result of that file? (It shouldn't be too big).

If you don't have SSH access, can you try the following instead:
1) Delete the BCM from the EM tree.
2) Then choose "Find new network element" and follow the prompts... is EM able to pick out the BCM's IP?
If not, try adding it manually and then click on "Validate" up on top of the screen. What response do you get (if any)?

You mentioned that you are able to use the same EM on the same computer to access another BCM is that correct? If so, it may not be the computer or any java-related setting.

Firebird I am using 62.0.5 but I did also try an older version. I even removed Java and BEM from a pc and then reinstalled with an old java version just to be sure. The customer has decided to just ride it out as they are in the process of getting a new system anyway.
