BCM 450 Call pilot failing

Hi Guys,

So i have never seen this one before but i'm hoping someone has.
It's a fairly large BCM 450 with about 100 phones and it's a raid.

That last 2 weeks we have a condition where the call pilot goes buggy . in the begining people will here the VM greeting and as soon as you get the beep to leave a message the call pilot lady gives a message saying the recording is to short and cuts them off. eventually the voicemail services stop responding all together so if you do a F985 or F981 the screen just stays blank. the receptionist also cant do F986 to transfer directly to VM , when she preses F986 it puts the caller on hold instead. From my side if i try to load the call pilot web manager it take forever to load and finaly says call pilot busy try again later.

When i reboot the whole BCM the call pilot starts runing again for a short while.

When this happens i looked at the services manager and the voicemail service shows as running but if i say restart it is unable to stop the service so my only option is to reboot the whole platform.
There are not any alarms either that pertain to this and the system was patched to the last smart update in 2016 which is 22 if i remember correctly.
The raid status shows as good and i don see any disk problems as the BCM's web page still works fine and i can access the elemanager no problem.
I checked the recording time available in the call pilot web interface and it has plenty of room

We did do a change on the IP address a few weeks ago and i configures a backup SIP trunk to the PRI and a stun server which works fine as well .
But it seems the problem coincided about a week after that

Any ideas why my call pilot is acting up?

Since it's a large system I'd first ask if you have a CEC card installed for extra resources. If I recall correctly this should be installed when you go over 100 telephone extensions of any type or more than 48 trunks of any type.

If you do have a CEC card, login to CallPilot Manager and run a report for message usage. Maybe you are eating up a lot of disk space with old messages piled up.

Years of Call Detail Recording can also eat up a lot of disk space, but I don't know if it would cause this problem.

One of these might be failing:
-Hard Drive
-BFT Base Function Tray
-Power Supply

Corruption
-Try a Restore but on the drop down select "Factory Default"
Once that is complete then do a Restore from your backup.
Just doing a Restore from a backup may not work and will waste time and why best to factory default first.

I doubt related to your PRI change.

Thanks, I doubt it'S resources because even though it's 100 phones this system has been running since 2010 with no issues and the AA does not pick up it's a live receptionist so no big load on the VM channels.

The changes we did was to the IP address and Stun server not the PRI .
We put a SIP trunk in as a backup in case the PRI fails .
We changes the IP of the customer side lan while doing this.

Also i checked the usage and we still have 25000 minutes of free space.

Wouldn't a failing bft or power supply generate alarms? and the raid controller shows both disks tuning in sync without and issue.

Some BCM 450 systems are prone to a bad small circuit board module on the early releases that sits in the middle of the unit connecting between the power supply and modules / motherboard etc. When it gets hot, it can cause the solder to melt causing the BCM to switch off.

This isn't the case with your system, but something to be aware of as no warnings were listed in the alarm table.

As you are using RAID, then you could try removing one hard disk and putting in a spare one and sync it with the main one.

Failing that, do a full backup, factory default the hard disks, patch it all to the latest releases and load in the backup.

Just two final questions.

The switch is patch to the latest patch , when i do a factory default does it remain at the last patch or do i have to re-patch it?

Also can you tell me how to extract the keycodes in case the restore fails?
Telepeter, a buddy we have in common , James said you did it once for him.. :)

If your talking about the factory default I mentioned then this applies only to the Callpilot.

Once you select backup or restore you will then need to check only the items you want to backup or restore, in this case restore only the Callpilot Configuration and Callpilot Messages.
Restore method:
Restore/FactoryDefault/Restore/OK then remove the checks on all the other items/OK

If you were to do a full backup of the BCM you can still restore only what you checked off.

No keycodes will be lost.

Keycode extraction via putty is a sensitive topic and should be asked directly and not on forums.
