BCM 450 6.0 MESSAGE FORWARDING

I've spent time playing with settings trying to get Message Forwarding working with a Bell Fibe service to no avail. I got past the initial settings which changed the alarms from one type to a "44010 alarm". Each time a call is placed the forwarding is turned off and the alarm generated. I changed the settings to be used with GMail and found that in order for it to work with that service, I had to go into GMail and change it's settings to "Allow less secure apps: ON".
Am I missing something in the set up or is that just the way it is? I'm figuring that most emails have increased their security over the years in light of spam, etc. As such, has BCM fallen behind with respect to keeping up with those security options?

Account name: name@gmail.com (the actual full email address such as mybcm@gmail.com)
Outgoing SMTP Port: 465
Outgoing SMTP requires encryption(TLS): Yes/Checked
Message Forwarding "From" E-Mail Address: same email as above

Mailbox Manager:
email address: their own email address and not the one above i.e. curly@acme.com

Hey Curlycord!

I think I have those settings in place as I'm currently using the Gmail to do my testing, but I did have to change the GMail account settings to "Allow less secure apps: ON" in order for it to work without GMail blocking it after the first message forwarding attempt. I'll try those settings later to see if they allow me turn that security setting off. My problem is that it won't work with Bell's email and that's where the majority of the customers would well be, at least within the Ontario area.

I appreciate the help here & thanks FirebirdScrambler as well. I have got the service up and working as I said, but only on GMail. It will not work with the same or similar settings on Bell's email server unless someone else has managed to get it working with some other settings. It just turns the service off and gives me a 44010 alarm. Maybe due to security issues it's not viable with Bell?

Try this for Bell maybe:
Outgoing SMTP Mail/Proxy Server: smtphm.sympatico.ca
Outgoing SMTP Port: 25 (or 587 is 25 does not work)
Outgoing SMTP requires encryption(TLS): Yes/Checked


I recommend and warn people not use carriers emails, Bell for one will delete your email account should you cancel their Internet service.

I forgot to ask, why the need to use Bell's server?
Just create and account on gmail such as acmebcm@gmail ....all the users should still be able to use their @bell in Mailbox manager.

Gmail is getting difficult to use. I use mine through Thunderbird email client. Recently I'm getting random security alert emails from Google saying that I accessed my email from a third party device (uh Google, that's my desktop I always use). That aside, I use my Gmail address to send message forwarding emails from the BCM50 with rare problems. Settings are:

Outgoing SMTP Mail/Proxy Server: smtp.gmail.com
Account Name: <my Gmail address>
Password: <my Gmail password>
Outgoing SMTP Port: 465
Outgoing SMTP requires encryption(TLS): <box is ticked>

To Curlycord and Exsmogger,

I'll continue to use an account generated and put into place on GMail for now as it does work (only when you set "Allow less secure apps: ON") as I tried all the settings you suggested Curlycord and Bell just won't work, so I'll stop fighting and take the easy route. All is working for now and I'll template this setup for future customers.
